Hi,

We have Lync Server 2010 in our environment and using group policy to disable audio/video function for some users using communicator.adm

Can any one please assist how to disable audio/video function for Lync 2013 clients? I cannot see the option to do so in GP management console. I have Lync policies imported from lync15.admx.

not able to install rtcxds database with Lync Standard Edition

Hello everybody,

I'm trying to install Lync 2013 Standard in an lab environment. After publishing my topology i try to install the database from the topology builder and everything works fine, but the rtcxds database times out.

It says that the database does not exist and will be created but it fails then with a timeout. The other databases are created successfully. A 4gb file is in the expected folder, which gets deleted when the timeout appears.

I got 4 services on my server that won't start (SQL Server-Agent RTC & SQL Server-Agent LYNCLOCAL & SQL Server-Agent RTCLOCAL & Lync Server XMPP-Übersetzungsgateway)

Can't open email items from search after installing Lync 2013 client

Hello,

We're deploying Lync 2013 in our environment.
At the moment we're using Office 2010 on the clients.

For testing the deployment I've installed the Lync 2013 client.
After installing, when I perform a search on my pc and outlook items are found, they suddenly appear with an Outlook 2013 icon.
When doubleclicking, nothing happens, neither when I rightclick.

I've checked the "associate a file type or protocol with a prgram", and "set your default programs" in the control panel.
In neither of them I can find the Outlook 2013 icon, and for email, every file type is configured to open with Outlook 2010.

Does anyone know what might be the problem. We have this problem with every user for which we install the Lync 2013 client.

If the problem continues, contact your support team."

I make a test with Lync PowerShell using the command Test-CsPhoneBootstrap -PhoneOrExt "1234" -pin 12345 and this is the message:

Lync Reporting - Max Packet Loss Rate (%)

Hi Guys,

I am reviewing some lync media quality reports and location reports...I am confused by one statistic.

I understand that avg. packet loss is a percentage of total packets...makes sense.

I don't understand what max packet loss rate is as a percentage. I would understand if it was in ms, and it is reporting what the max packet loss was...but I don't get that it's a percent of what?

Hello

We have had various issues since upgrade to Lync 2013, specifically, Lync 2013 address book generation and download (bandwidth usage impact).

I was wondering if there is a way to find out which version of AB is downloaded; FULL AB or the Delta file ?

Thanks for your assistance,

OWA Integration not working with Exchange 2013 and Lync 2013 (with UCS enabled)

$

Hi guys,

I have a system landscape that was migrated from Windows 2008 R2 (as AD) with Exchange 2010 and existing Lync 2013 Installation. Lync Integration with OWA was working fine in that configuration.

After the AD was migrated to Windows 2012 R2 and Exchange was migrated to 2013, there are some problems with OWA Integration for users hat have UCS enabled (that is my guess). All Systems are installed in german language.

For testing I created a new user in AD, Exchange and Lync and I can use Lync in OWA without any problems.
But when I log in to Lync Rich-Client with that user, after a few minutes I got logged off and on again (because there were some changes in my contact list; the UCS enablement, I guess) -> after that the Default Contact Group in Lync is named "Other contacts" (was "Andere Kontakte" before) and I cannot login for Lync with that user in OWA anymore (this is reproducible; delete user from Lync, delete contact list in Outlook, try again).

However I can still login with users that have never used Lync 2013 Rich-Client (i.e. Domain-Administrator), so it is not a General Lync-OWA-Integration problem.

I did some testing, but I am not able to find a solution.

When I enable UCMA-Tracing with OCSTracer I get the following error message:

However I also get the above error 480 also for the Domain Administrator user (which has never started Lync 2013 and should not have UCS enabled?).

Any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance!

Merge Lync 2013 Edge servers in same pool

$

Hi guys.

- We had Lync 2013 FE STD version.
- We have added one more Lync 2013 FE STD and done front end pool pairing.
- We had single Edge Pool, soo only 1 EDGE server being in 1 POOL.

We wish to add another Edge server and put previous and this new Edge server in one pool.

This is a printscreen of our current Edge Deployment.

Because we have a federation enabled with external partners who had put in their lync configuration
to trust to our public external address of current edge server: LyncEDGESIP.domain.com, we would like to avoid sending them new address and we have decided to keep that public address and make it EDGE POOL NAME where both edge servers would be inside.

Now we are little bit confused/amused what to do next.

If use LyncEDGESIP.domain.com to be FQDN of EDGE POOL with 2 two edge servers, what would we need to do with our current edge server.

What to put for:
Access Edge Service public address on both edge servers
Web Conferencing Edge Service public address on both edge servers
A/V Edge Service public address on both edge servers.

Lync 2013 - Minimum number of Enterprise Front-End server in a pool

$

Hello,

In various TechNet articles I read that an Ent. pool can contain from 1 to 12 FE server and also that a minimum of 3 servers is recommended.

Question:

  1. Can we deploy a pool with only one Ent. FE Server to start with and then in the future implement additional Ent FE servers into the pool if number of users increase and/or high availability becomes a requirement ?
  2. Is a one server Ent pool supported by Microsoft ?

Thanks for your help,

Unable to call out to external numbers with a simmilar phone numbers.

We have had our Lync 2010 setup for a while now (by a 3rd party company who are long gone).

We are unable to use Lync to dial external numbers that are similar to ours (using click to dial).

Say for example we own the range 0207 123 0001 - 1999
Lync wont dial any numbers between 0207 123 2000 - 9999

We can manually call these by typing in 90207 123 2000 etc etc.

It must be a rule/dial plan i guess thats not adding the 9 to any number that starts with 0207 123 2XXX and upwards.

Any help would be appreciated.

OCS Migration to Lync 2013 Delegate which Director that authenticates

$

Hello - I am in the middle of a migration from OCS 07 to Lync 2013. Everything is working pretty well. I have a new Lync Server with some users migrated over to it already and communication is fine between the Lync Desktop Clients and the OCS Desktop Clients.

We now want to use the Mobile Lync Client so I have installed Lync 2013 Client on my iPhone 5S. I was able to install the root cert on the phone however, when I try to sign in, I am getting the following error:

"We can't sign you in because your organization doesn't support this version of Lync. Please install Lync 2010 from your mobile store."

I am running Lync 2013 Standard Edition and I am running Lync 2013 Client for iOS. I can only assume that because the OCS director is still running it is handling authentication and its not compatible with Lync 2013. Is this a correct assumption?

That being said, and if that's indeed the issue, is there a way to delegate the Lync 2013 Director to take over authentication?

Thank you!

Lync 2013 crashes after installing from VLSC installers but not from Office 365 download

I have attempted to install Office Professional Plus 2013 on two separate computers with either the Office Professional Plus 2013 or Office Professional Plus 2013 with SP1 installers from the Volume License Service Center and each time Lync crashes when opening Lync.  An error window pops up saying that Lync has stopped working and then Lync closes.  When I install Office 2013 from an Office 365 download Lync operates properly.

I have read different threads suggesting to uninstall Bluetooth or update Lync which I have two responses to:

  1. Lync works when installing from Office 365 without changing Bluetooth or updating Lync
  2. Uninstalling Bluetooth and updating Lync have no effect.

When setting up a user's computer and they request Office 2013 rather than 2010 which is installed on our image I would prefer to install using the VLSC installer rather than logging in to my Office 365 account.

What is causing this and how can it be fixed?

Lync EWS not working

$

I've been struggling with the following problem for quite a time. We are using AD in our network with Exchange and Lync servers. Most Lync 2013 clients have no problem connecting via autodiscover DNS records, but some have. The Configuration Information of Lync shows empty EWS urls for some of users and Lync reports it cannot connect to Exchange, though Outlook works perfectly.

In the long run, it turned out that those clients had e-mail property of AD user object set to something like joe@gmail.com rather than joe@domain.local as had those who experienced no problem.

So the question is this. Is it a bug or an expected behavior of Lync that it despite having the right sip account name uses the email property of Domain User for configuring EWS?

Automate Lync 2013 Server Installation

I'm trying to automate the Lync Server 2013 installation.  Is there a command line / powershell method to do this?

It was fairly easy to do with Exchange but it doesn't seem to be the case with Lync, so far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lync 2013 Server not working with iPad/iPhone clients.

$

Good day to all,

We have Lync 2013 installed. For the mobility, I installed an IIS with ARR, in order to use it as a reverse proxy. So the topology is: One FE, one Edge, one RP. I have autodiscovery implemented.

I have tested with PCs running Lync 2013 client and works properly from inside and outside.

I have tested with Android devices and Lync 2010 clients and it works properly from inside and outside.

I have tested with iPad devices on Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 and it does not work either inside or outside. The error shows as Can't connect to the server. Try again later.

I am using the connectivity analyzer from outside and it shows that the minimum for mobility is meet.

As far as I remember, the mobile devices being either inside or outside, it will try to go to the RP to connect and will be forwarded to the FE.

Finally, I got the logs from an iPad and it shows the following:
