Lync2013 EWS URLs for Exchange 2007/2010 Coexistence

Hi

Last weekend we deployed and activated our new Exchange 2010 CAS. The 'old' Exchange 2007 CAS is still there, using the legacy URL method, since mailboxes are mostly still located on 2007 Mailbox servers.

In other words, clients connect to the Exchange web-services on the 2010 CAS, and depending on where their mailbox is located (2007 or 2010 Mailbox-server) they either stay with the 2010 CAS or get re-directed to the 2007 CAS (legacy.company.com)

Internal and External URL's are the same, for both the primary and the legacy URL's. All is well, no issues with Outlook clients or OWA, EWS, Activesync.

Enter Lync 2013.
Since the change this weekend, we're getting Outlook/Exchange Integration errors. Checking the Lync Configuration Information (CTRL-Click system tray icon), I can see the EWS Internal/External URL's being used by the client. These URL's point to the 2010 CAS. So why the error ?
Does the 2010 CAS re-direct Lync clients to the legacy URL, just like it does with OWA/Outlook clients ?
Does it even have to, to supply EWS data for mailboxes on 2007 servers ?
Can I change the EWS URL's, and have them point to the legacy URL, but only for Lync clients ? (and change it back later)

Already checked a mailbox on Exchange 2010, it's Lync user does not get the integration error. So the problem is definitely related to mailboxes on 2007, that need the old CAS server during coexistence. Also, before the CAS 2007 server worked fine, providing EWS to Lync clients.

Eventually, the plan is to move the mailboxes from 2007 to 2010, but this error puts pressure on that plan. It will take at least 2 or 3 weeks, during which time clients continue to get the error until they are moved.

I'm kinda stuck here.

The best article to explain why two NICs with Edge?

I've read Jeff Schertz's article, "Clarification on OCS Edge Interface Support".  Also, I see that TechNet says you need to NICs in different subnets.

So the question isn't if it's supported or if it will work.  The question is if there's an article explaining why?  Is it a STUN/TURN protocol thing?  Does someone deep dive into the why?

I downloaded and installed it, but I cannot run it.  On Windows 8, when I try to run it, nothing happens.  On Windows Server 2012, I receive message that the program should be closed.

How do I install it?  Is there anything I could do?

I tried both, 64 and 32 bit.

Thank you.

Thank you. Eric.

Lync 2013 Mobility/Meet/Dialin All Returning 401 Errors

Hello everyone! Hopefully someone can help me figure this one out because I'm starting to go bald from it.

Set up:

All Server 2012, all Lync 2013 with latest CU/updates.

1 Frontend - lfe1.lync.local - Pool is also set up to allow future HA/capacity - lfep1.lync.local

1 Director - ldr1.lync.local - Pool is also set up to allow future HA/capacity - ldrp1.lync.local

ARR 2.5 on IIS8 with all available hotfixes applied acting as reverse proxy for Lync 2013 and Exchange 2013.

There is NO INTERNAL ACCESS to Lync whatsoever, as this is a Lync Hosting Pack deployment. However, all the necessary internal DNS records are created, even though they're useless. There is ONLY external access to this environment.

Lyncdiscover is working fine, returns the XML, I can manually browse and get the XML and it's reflected in the mobile client logs. However, if I browse to the url returned in the XML (https://ldrp1.hostingco.com/autodiscover/autodiscoverservice.svc/root/user?originaldomain=tenant.com) I get a 401 unauthorized due to invalid credentials. Same goes for browsing the web services URL https://lfep1.hostingco.com/ucwa/v1/applications - met with 401 invalid credentials. This is the same if I browse locally, directly to each server in IE, completely bypassing the ARR reverse proxy.

I've verified that Get-CsWebServicesConfiguration UseWindowsAuth is set to 'Negotiate' and I've verified that Get-CsMcxConfiguration ExposedWebUrl is set to 'External'. No cert errors, those are all good and clear.

I'm completely at a loss here. I have no idea where else to look, I've gone through every post I could find related to Lync 2013 and mobility, getting 401 and even 403 errors. This is happening on iOS, Android, and Windows devices.

Here are mobile logs (I skipped the autodiscover process because there's just a bunch of trying HTTPS and failing, HTTP works, redirects, and that is by design as per Lync Hosting Pack guidelines):

Lync 2013 Edge server issues and how to test?

$

We have a somewhat functional Lync environment at the moment. Internal desktop client connectivity works, as does connectivity from mobile devices both internally and externally. However, I can't get the external desktop clients to work correctly.

We are using an F5 appliance as a reverse proxy and all servers are VMs. One big wrinkle, though, is that we do not have a DMZ and all of our IP addresses are true routable IPs.

If I VPN into the network and connect with the desktop client, I see in the logs that it's finding the internal name and IP for the front-end pool and connecting first over 5061 and then 443. However, when not on the VPN it appears to keep contacting sip.domain.com, which is the front end for "Edge Servers - External Interface Access service virtual server", according to the F5. It points to the Access Edge service external IP of my Edge server. In addition, if I use the Microsoft connectivity tester I see that it's getting hung up at the following: "The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer is attempting to obtain the SSL certificate from remote server sip.domain.com on port 5061. The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer wasn't able to obtain the remote SSL certificate."

I have confirmed that sip.domain.com is answering on port 5061, as is the Edge interface pointed to on the F5. My thought is that the traffic isn't being routed past that Edge interface into our internal network, and here's where the fun begins:

Our edge server is a VM with two NICs. The Internal NIC has an ip of 123.456.148.133. The external NIC has three IPs:

  • Access Edge -           123.456.156.81
  • Web Conferencing     123.456.156.82
  • A/V Edge                  123.456.156.83

The internal NIC has no gateway. The external NIC does. I've attempted to set up a static route back to our internal namespace but it hasn't been going well due to our network setup. The server seems to be able to communicate to our other servers, but I can no longer connect to it over its internal IP address.

So my questions are: What's the correct way to set things up in this scenario? And, is there any way to test to be sure that the issue really is the edge server? Are there specific logs on the Edge server I could look at? Should I be running a network capture? Perhaps sacrificing a live goat would help? Any help would be appreciated.

Lync Meetings not available - 404 for every URL

Hi there,

I have deployed a Lync environment (1 Standard FE, 1 Edge, 1 Apache Webserver as Reverse Proxy) and there's a problem with my meeting URL's.

If I click "Meet now" in my Lync Desktop Client, get an URL for the meeting, but if I open it, I'll get a HTTP 404.

I can join those meetings by using the dial-in functionality, so they seem to be existing.

If I open the main meet.domain.com page, I get a 403 - Access denied, which is ok.

This happens internal and external.

I am using an Apache as Reverse Proxy, mobility is working fine with it. I also tested the environment with IIS ARR to make the simple URL's available, but I ran into the same problem.

The Apache (Reverse Proxy) and the Edge Servers are in the DMZ and reachable from the internet.

Please tell me which details you'll need to investigate this issue.

I can provide you the apache configuration if you'll need it.

Thanks,

Philipp

Hi,

I am working on WAN BW calculation for Lync 2013. I have tried BW calculator andTechnet  which didn't help me or I couldn't make it up.

I have finally come to a conclusion that IM and Presence is 1.3Kbps / user. Likewise I need to calculate for other components as well.

Need your assistance in arriving the BW for other services. We can ignore UC completely.

IM / Presence : 1.3 Kbps / user

Web Conference :

Address Book Query:

Group IM Conference:

Application Sharing:

Audio: (Default Codec)

Video:

Please include if there is any other components that use WAN/Internet BW except UC.

Updating Polycom CX700 Firmware (Lync Server 2013)

$

Hey, everyone!

I'm new to the Polycom family of products, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. We purchased two new CX700 and they came with Firmware v1.0.522.34. We're currently running Lync Enterprise Server 2013, and I've read online about how you can't jump right to the latest firmware; you have to go to CU June 2012 (CU5) first (http://blog.schertz.name/2012/08/lync-phone-edition-cu6-upgrade-issues/).

So I did that and Lync Control Panel has version 4.0.7577.4066 as the approved version for the CX700. However, the handset still doesn't seem able to update properly. It still continues to show a "Last Update Status" of "(0x2ee7/0)."

I've verified that our DHCP settings are correct by using Microsofts included "DHCPUtil.exe -EmulateClient" (http://blog.schertz.name/2010/12/configuring-lync-server-for-phone-edition-devices/). Here's the final output with the full server name redacted:

Result: Success
DHCP Server : 10.1.3.1
SIP Server FQDN : <FQDN>
Certificate Provisioning Service URL : https://<FQDN>:443/CertProv/CertProvisioningService.svc

I know it's looking for updates because the "Last Update Request" continues to update.

Whenever you attempt to login to the phone, it finds the time server and then gives the message "Cannot sign in to Communications Service. You must update your version of the software. Contact your system administrator."

If I go on my Lync FE Server and look at the IIS logs, I can't seem to find anything relevant (maybe I'm not looking properly).

I'm really hoping that someone can help me figure out what to test next and get this figured out. I need to get this handset rolled out soon. Thanks!

-Eric

DNS settings on IIS ARR proxy for lync 2013

$

just checking the following DNS configuration on the IIS ARR box to publish lync2013

the internal domain name is the same as the external sip domain contoso.com

the proxy is configured with external DNS server on the external NIC, on the internal no dns.

hostfile only with only one entry which is the FE server (lyncsrv1.contoso.com)

The webfarm is pointing to the internal FQDN of the FE server lyncsrv1.contoso.com

My question when I ping lyncdiscover.contoso.com on the proxy server itself this pings the external IP. The same is true of all the other URL's e.g.meet.contoso.com, lyncext.contoso.com etc all ping the external NIC Ip.

However when I ping lyncsrv1.contoso.com this pings the FE server on the internal nextwork.

Is this correct? or do I need to add all the external urls in the host file on the proxy server itself to point to the IP FE (lyncsrv1)

Lync Connectivity Analyzer crashes on startup

Two different people have installed this tool on two separate Windows 7 laptops, and it fails to launch on both machines. I originally was receiving a kernelbase.dll error. I started googling for the error and found that some people had success with removing recent .Net 4.5 patches, so I began removing the July .Net 4.5 patches. Something I've done has removed the kernelbase.dll error, but I still have the error below. I do not have KB2840632 installed even though others say it has resovled their issue. Suggestions?

Lync Powerpoint presentation stuck on loading

Hi Just finished setting up WAC with Lync...I can get to all of the URLS but when I try to share a slide it just keeps sitting at loading and eventually gives a communication error. I am not seeing any error on the WAC server or Lync.

The only thing I suspect might be an issue is I've tried to use the same FQDN for external and internal when I published the WAC server...

I used split DNS...internally. The reason I did this was because I didn't want to waste a SAN on a public Cert and wanted to minimize the amount of certs I had to work with.

wac.company.com resolves to an internal IP address

Externally

wac.company.com resolves to an external IP address

both are on https on 443....

Registrar and UserServer is not starting and working in a migration scenario

Hello everybody,

I'm migrating from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013. Standard Edition Deployment.

Lync 2010: 1 Lync 2010 Pool, 1 Lync 2010 Frontend Server with SQL Express on Windows Server 2008 R2
Lync 2010 Edge:  1 Lync 2010 Edge Pool, 1 Lync 2010 Edge Server on Windows Server 2008 R2

Lync 2013: 1 Lync 2013 Pool, 1 Lync 2013 Frontend Server with SQL Express on Windows Server 2008 R2
Lync 2013 Edge:  1 Lync 2013 Edge Pool, 1 Lync 2013 Edge Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 (planned, not yet installed)

When I try to migrate a user from the Lync 2010 pool to Lync 2013 pool I'll get an DCOM Access Denied Error. After I checked the topology status (Navigation\Topology) and double clicked the Lync 2013 FE Server it show two services which are not ok.

Lync 2013 Registrar is stopped
Lync 2013 UserServer says start pending

I can logon to both, the Lync 2010, Lync 2013 console. All  Lync services are started (services.msc).

What did I do?
I checked for the errors (event id 30988, 32178). I stumbled upon a KB articel (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2795828/en-us). In fact this KB is for Windows Server 2012 and not 2008 R2 I didn't do anything with the found certificates because they need to be where they are. E. g. WSUS cert in the root cert store, CA cert in the root cert store, ... There are fewer than 20 certs in the root cert. Valid ones. Deployed by group policies.

I tried just the following cmdlet (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj619172.aspx): Reset-CsPoolRegistrarState -PoolFqdn "lync2013pool.test.com" -ResetType FullReset
It didn't fix the issue.

I've found these two postshttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/lyncdeploy/thread/e1c7be2e-c922-4efe-9e47-b08ce63d2320/
andhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/lyncserverpreview/thread/07ec9d8c-b83e-4795-91b6-0d3344cd49e5 but couldn't sort it out though.

Is there anyone who has guessings or can help  me sorting it out? Or tell me what else to check in this case?

Your help and a resolution would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

How do we check that CMS is moved from lync 2010 to Lync 2013 in Co-Existance environment lync standard edition.

I know that users are moved form Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 but i don't if CMS is moved? And in the existing co-existence we have two edge servers Lync 2010 and Lync 2013. How can i check if traffic is  routing through Lync 2010 or lync 2013.

Because we want to Decommission the Lync 2010 STD Edition before doing this i want to make sure every thing go smooth.

Please help me on this.

Thanks

Merge ocs2007R2 to Lync2013 failes with "Exception: WMI Provider is not installed...."

With a fresh install of Lync 2013 I am trying to run in coexistence with my OCS 2007 R2 instance.  as i understand it, and have tested in development, the merge topology must be done to import users settings as they are moved from OCS to Lync. I have installed OCSWMIBC.msi from the install media as needed, and then run the topology merge which fails with the below message.  the only information I have been able to find on this problem is from an unresolved technet post

System.Management.Automation.CmdletInvocationException:  WMI provider is not installed. Install it using OCSWMIBC.msi installer. ---> System.Exception:  WMI provider is not installed. Install it using OCSWMIBC.msi installer.

I'm just hoping someone has some advise for this.  it worked fine in my test environment, but not in my live environment. (they are snapshot duplicates of eachother)
