Connect lync without VPN or on Internal network

I've setup Lync 2013 and have no problem with getting my users connected and functioning on an internal connection. I began testing the mobile application on an iOS device and it works great as long as the device is connected to the internal network's WiFi (certs have been loaded on the device). I've read various articles in relation to an external setup but nothing I've read has been able to fix the issue. We want users to be able to use the Lync mobile application and on laptops whether connected to the internal network or not.

Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? Below is a sample of how we have the IP addressing and DNS setup...  I've never setup Lync before and am far from a DNS guru.

Internal Lync Server = LyncServer.contoso.local - (Internal NIC / 10.10.10.1) - (External NIC / 192.100.10.1)

Edge Server = LyncEdgeServer (Workgroup: LyncWG) - (Internal NIC / 10.10.10.2) - (External NIC / 192.100.10.2)

DNS entries for contoso.local

     LyncServer.contoso.local - 10.10.10.1

DNS entries for contoso.com

     lyncservice.contoso.com - 10.10.10.1

     lyncdiscover.contoso.com - 10.10.10.1

     lyncdiscoverinternal.contoso.com - 10.10.10.1
