I think I am just burnt out on Lync. Such a beast to implement.
I have a FE and an Edge server. The edge has two nics (dmz and lan).
lyncdiscover.domain.com has a cname record which points to collaboration.domain.net which is our FE. The nat on the firewall for this allows traffic on 443 and then port forwards to 4443. Mobile devices (android and ios) can connect to this service and can chat. Calls cannot be successfully made. When you try it will not allow one or two way audio. Literally nothing. The Windows 8 app will not connect at all. Full Lync 2013 clients cannot connect at all. It will ask for a UN and pass but then fails.
What am I missing here?
Why can mobile connect but not full lync clients?
Why cant Windows 8 app connect?
Why dont I have audio on my Lync Mobility calls?
I ran the MS Lync Connectivity Analyzer from my home computer (where the Lync client fails from outside the network) and it says:
Server discovery succeeded for secure (HTTPS) external channel against URL https://lyncdiscover.domain.com/Failed to obtain the WS-Metadata Exchange (MEX) document using POST for https://collaboration.domain.net/Mcx/McxService.svc/mex. The service did not require authorization.

Your deployment meets the minimum requirements for Lync mobile apps.
Thanks for your help. I'm at a total loss here. I find this deployment so complex!
