Lync 2013 ignores AutoOpenMainWindowWhenStartup reg key or client setting

$

I haven't found an answer on this yet.  I hope it's a quick fix.

I am trying to not have the main window open on Windows log on (AutoOpenMainWindowWhenStartup=0).  I know where the reg key is, and I know where it's set in the client, but whenever I set it as unchecked or equals 0 nothing happens.  When I log into Windows the Lync Contact List will open (or in my case the Lync login screen will open since the local administrator doesn't have a Lync account).

My goal is to auto launch Lync (which is working), not display the main window on startup (NOT WORKING), minimize to notification bar (which I've got working), have it log in automatically if the user has an account (which is working), and if the user doesn't have an account just be minimized to the notification area (no notification or anything popping in front of the user).

Any ideas why it's not working?  Any ideas on how I could get it to work?  It's going to be for a deployment of a VDI system.  Thanks in advance!

Can 'external' lync 2013 clients connected to an 'internal' VPN maintain an 'external' connection?

I have a split DNS;  'internal' and 'external'

I want the 'external' lync 2013 clients to stay connected externally while connected to the 'internal' network.

When the 'external' laptops and desktops connect to the VPN we provide DNS services from our 'internal' DNS servers.

Can I simply remove the IP address range of my VPN network from the Lync 2013 server so that VPN 'subnets' are not listed in my Office Site 'subnet'?, this would hopefully force the 'external' Lync client connected to the VPN to be connected as 'external' users.

OR will the 'internal' DNS prevent the VPN users from connecting to the Lync 2013 'externally'?

Thanks

Lync Server 2013 Edge Server RTCSRV not starting after EVAL expiration and setting EVALTOVL

I have a customer who has setup two edge servers in their Lync Server 2013 topology in one pool. Due to unknown reason both servers starting showing error EVAL license expired. The RTCSRV was stopped on one of the edge server (server2) and was running on another (server1).

I have followed the TechNet link - http://http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg521005.aspx to make the license upgrade to VL on both servers. After steps, the RTCSRV start running on the server1 where it was running previously. The license shows that now Volume License is installed.

However, on server2, after same steps the RTCSRV is not starting. The license shows that it is changed to VL on the server. When I try to start the service using Start-csWindowsService, I get following two error event logs:

I have rebooted the server2 but no change. Here is the output from Get-CsServerVersion command:

Microsoft Lync Server 2013 (5.0.8308.0): Volume license key installed.

Does anyone know how to make RTCSRV see correct status of the license key?

Thanks,

How to enable performance counters in Lync Server 2013 - Mediation Server?

At a customer, we are observing strange behavior with Monitoring Server. When try to enable a performance monitoring using computer performance monitoring tool, there is no "LS: Mediation Service" counter group found. The Get-Counter -ListItem returns an error and Performance monitoring tool does not have any group with "LS: Mediation Service".

Therefore, my question is "How can I enable performance counters in Lync Server 2013 Mediation Server?

I appreciate a direction.

SIP Federation Routes PER SIP DOMAIN - Possible?

$

0

I work in an environment where there are multiple SIP domain and Multiple Front End Pools / Edge Pools.  I'm looking to see if it's possible to have MULTIPLE federation routes.

Example:

Lets say I have 2 Lync Front End Pools that each have their own Edge pool.  Pool1 runs users that have sip domain of domain1.com and Pool2 runs users who have sip domain domain2.com.

In external DNS there are 2 SRV records

  • _sipfederationtls._tcp.domain1.com > pointing to the Access Edge IP of domain1.com's Edge Pool.
  • _sipfederationtls._tcp.domain2.com > pointing to the Access Edge IP of domain2.com's Edge Pool

What I want to do is this:

  • For users homed on Pool1 to use the Edge Pool of Pool1 as their federation route
  • For users homed on Pool2 to use the Edge Pool of Pool2 as their federation route

Possible?  If so where is documentation?

Skype federation fail

Hi,

We're now performing an Lync upgrade from 2010 to 2013 and change SIP address from old.com to new.com. We've also configured some federated partners which works perfectly except Skype. We have already registered on https://pic.lync.com and received the email said the provisioning request completed. We connect reach contacts from both sides.

Is there any troubleshooting method to narrow down the issue? thanks

Lync 2013 FE server certificate - different domain name

$

Hi,

I am implementing a small Lync infrastructure with the following components in a Resource Forest - Account Forest type implementation with a bi-directional Trust between the two forests:

  1 x Lync 2013 FE Standard,   1 x Mediation server  and  1 x Office Web App server

Both AD forests have their PKI CAs, the certificate on the FE server is signed by the CA from the Account domain. All servers and workstations have both Root certificates implemented.

User’s SIP domain name (account forest) is different from the FE server (resource forest) domain name.

  • Question: When internal users sign-in to Lync they get a warning prompt as follows:
“Lync cannot verify that the server is trusted for your sign-in address. Connect anyway?”

Users can select to connect and everything functions correctly, however, I would like to get rid of the warning message at the beginning.

Any idea what may be wrong, is something missing on the certificate ?

Thanks for your help,

Luca

Any rollback plan or any risk ?

If DC on VM we can take snapshot before update?

if true server , do the system state backup first?

Before run the preparation checking DC is health or not as below?

dcdiag /v /c /d /e /s:dcname >c:\dcdiag.txt
netdiag /v >c:\netdiag.txt
repadmin /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite >c:\repl.txt
Thanks.

User presence problem

HY guys,

here it goes.

My domain consists of SBS 2011 server and a separate server where Lync is installed.

Done the installation by the book but however I can only see users that are listed in SBS console.

Finaly I have managed to see all users at administration panel - Users. For all of them it says that they are enabled for Lync server. They are all assigned to the correct pools but they can not see each other. If I add someone from my organization to Lync client it says "Presence unknown".

Any ideas?THX

Hi,

I'm trying to integrate Lync 2013 with Exchange 2013. Did the Exchange part, reset IIS.

Ran commands on Lync side too but Test-CsExStorageConnectivity still fails.

Hi All,

I'm trying to setup monitoring in Lync 2013 - in the setup, if I try and choose one of the named instances that i have in SQL the red X button appears.

Is there a specific online guide that anyone can point me to?

Thanks

Best path to Lync 2013

I've been running Lync 2010 Standard with a single edge server and a single front-end server. Recently I lost two of the four drives in my edge server simultaneously, and - of course - there is no backup. I've already got a virtual server started for Lync 2013 front-end. My current question is whether I need to rebuild the Lync 2010 Edge server, or just build a Lync 2013 edge server instead and not worry about the 2010 edge server loss. I wasn't sure if the 2010 edge server was required for the migration to 2013.

It seems that I should be able to get my topology built on the Lync 2013 front-end server, then use that topology to import into the 2013 edge server, and, finally, move my users to the 2013 front-end environment. Any guidance would be appreciated before I begin the work. Thank you.

David

Lync Online

Hi,

I am very new to Office 365.  I am trying to setup Lync to test with.  When running the readiness check, I fail on domain test:

SRV records for SIP federation web conferencing have to be setup in DNS and verified for custom domains

SRV records for SIP web conferencing have to be setup in DNS and verified for custom domains

I understand I need to configure this, but I don't know how or where?  Internal DNS and External? Do I need to setup a lync.myexternaldomain.com record too?  I would assume no as I would point to their servers?

Please help me.

Thans and regards

Accessing Lync from the Internet

Hi there,

I currently have Lync 2013 Standard Edition Single FE running in my environment and looking at allowing access from the internet. I have gone through a lot of documentation all saying an Edge server is needed but a colleague seems to think otherwise. He said we can just open some ports, have the right certificates in place and clients can just connect to the FE.

Please advice. Thank you

Lync 2013 Duplicate Routing Group

I read this article Lync 2013 High Availability deep dive: Architecture
http://blogs.technet.com/b/rischwen/archive/2014/02/24/lync-2013-high-availability-deep-dive-architecture.aspx
and was curious about the Routing Groups and user assignment to them.

I ran the SQL query: SELECT [RoutingGroupName] FROM [rtc].[dbo].[RoutingGroupAssignment]
on each of my three Ent. Front End servers in my pool, and got different results on one of them:

00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

Notice '00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000' appears twice in the list on one FE, but not the other two, where it only appears once.  All other Routing Groups are the same.

I suspect there may be something wrong with my Routing Groups.  Anyone know if this is truly an issue?
Can anyone run this query on their Lync Server 2013 Enterprise Edition Front End pool and see if they get similar results?

Thanks.
