I think I have a noob setup as I'm very new to this. We have a physical server which has 3 VMs on it(AD,Exchange,Lync). Now the task is to be able to login using a non domain client computer(which i have completed already) and to be able to login using phones. Both are on corporate network only(the server does not have internet access, as of now).  Upon researching, to be able to have a Lync account on mobile phones I need to setup a reverse proxy. I checked if I can still add another VM for the reverse proxy but my colleague says it can't handle another VM as the physical server(which he built) does not have much resources in it. So what i did is i get a test laptop and installed windows server 2012 r2 on it. After configurations on that server laptop, I have installed IIS and used web installer to install ARR. after installation I followed everything that I've researched on how to setup reverse proxy for lync.

I tested and the account was able to login(without doing anything yet to DNS, lync server, etc.) but it is disconnecting after send a message. So this time i checked some configurations on the oother components. I have noticed that the external web service FQDN is the same as the internal web service FQDN and as well as the FQDN of the Lync server(win-lync.domain.com). So what i did is to edit the configurations on topology builder for external web service FQDN and set is as externalweblync.domain.com. I go to DNS and created A record for the external web services and resolve it first on the lync server IP address. I requested and assign a new certificate in line with the new external services FQDN and bind it to the IIS server(laptop). I deleted the old configurations on ARR and created a new one with the new external web service FQDN. I tested and it says error occured on lync.

I only have 1 interface on IIS server(laptop) so I what i did is go to DNS and resolve external web service, lyncdiscover, lyncdiscoverintenal to the ipaddress of the IIS server. Upon checking it is now giving me an unknown error occurred in lync. I checked and i can open all simple urls on my test mobile fone but having an error for lyncdiscover url. It says server error 502-web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server.

I'm thinking that the reason why im not able to login successfully is because i cannot open lyncdiscover url on my phone. Even on the IIS ARR server I'm not able to successfully get that downloadable file from lyncdiscover url.

I checked and remove all the rules on IIS and recreated them again. Now it is able to login and gets connected. Upon testing, it gives me an error: Failed to process the server request. It only happens when i send or receive a message. I tried doing nothing and it stayed connected without interruption. Once i tried to send and receive again it will again throw me the same error. Can you help me please. Thank you.

I'm hoping this is an easy one:

We have several entirely independent Lync infrastructures and are looking for a way to force a single number to route as a Lync to Lync call instead of a PSTN one on all our domains.

Basically, what we'd like is for one particular number (123-555-5555), which one of our domains controls, to be dialed as Lync to Lync from the others.  If a person calls the number from a true external source, like a cell phone, it routes normally, but if a person calls from one of our independent Lync instances, rather than pointlessly calling out via PSTN just to turn right around and come back to our other Lync deployment, we skip the (costly) middleman.

Let's say our number lives on Domain A.  I've created a stand-in, Lync-enabled fake user account on Domain B with thesame number assigned to it, and enabled call forwarding by SIP to our Domain A account.  I'd hoped this would 'intercept' anyone trying to call out to that number from Domain B, and push the call over Lync-to-Lync, but it doesn't seem to work properly.

Has anyone set something up like this?

I apologize if the scenario seems confusing, we're just trying to save ourselves some pointless PSTN calls between our own Lync instances.

I have an issue with replication of the Management Store to Edge Servers.

In four separate countries I have a Enterprise FE pool and an Edge Pool segregated by a firewall in each country. Only in one country does the Management Store replicate to the Edge Server successfully (see below).

The bottom two entries with a status of "True" are for the FE and Edge that replicate OK.

From all the FE servers I can telnet to to their partner Edge server on port 4443 and I can browse to the replication service on https://servername.fqdn:4443/replicationwebservice. The certificates look fine too.

If I run the Lync Server logging tool on the failing Edge servers and force replication from a FE server with Invoke-CsManagementStoreReplication there is nothing showing up in the XDS_Replica_Replicator log at all. If I do the same on the good Edge server I get a whole bunch of stuff in the log.

I thought maybe it was a firewall issue but I have subsequently opened up the source IP range on my firewall rules to allow all to speak to the Edge servers' internal interface on 4443. Still nothing.

From the timestamps in the above screenshot you can see that the Edge severs have at least once reported back to the FE servers as the LastStatusReport value is not null but you can also see that that was a long time ago.

Any ideas?

Is there any way to configure the Registry or perhaps a GPO so that Lync 2013 clients running on Windows 7 will auto logout or disconnect from the server if they have been inactive after a certain amount of time? Searched around and could not find anything.

I found the link below but it uses Preferences which have undesirable side affects.

My customer is going with a 2 node SQL cluster (their DBAs prefer clusters to mirrors).

Im designing for 1000 users with BackEnd DB, Monitoring and Archiving (Traditional as they don't have Exchange 2013)/

What size DB/Logs would be reasonable for 1000 users based upon the above?
Can/Should the BackendDB, Monitoring and Archiving DB be in the same instance?
We want to deploy reporting services (which I understand cant be clustered), is there any HA available for this?
Can reporting services sit in the same instance as the other DBs?
What Instance Features are required in SQL setup for my requirements?

Apologies for loads of questions but I find TechNet a minefield when it comes to getting simple answers.

Hi,

We are in process to decommission Cisco Call Manager , Currently External Users make a call to company number xxxxxxxxx and that call land to Cisco Call Manager with greetings and following options.

Press 1 for Phone number (Forward to Lync Extension )

Press 2 for Name

Press 0 for Operator.

Is there way that i can achieve this from Lync 2013 without using Exchange 2010 UM.

I have standard infrastructure: 2013 Lync FE internally with Lync 2013 edge in DMZ, 3 different ip for sip, av and webconf 

everything was configured in help of technet , everything works perfectly, but I noticed one problem, when I try to reach external ip of sip service without dns, just ip address, I get 

Status: 404 Not Found
Server: RTC/5.0
FQDN: LEDGEOPP01.domain.com
this only working in chrome and firefox, IE just gives 404 error
why it gives domain name? I really dont want anyone to know internal domain name so easy, how can I remove it?

Its been a very embarassing and stressful day as we have had top executive conferences using this equipment and it keeps resetting.  The CX5500 is plugged into a PC running the Microsoft Lync Client on it.  

What is happening is this device is resetting by itself after using the conference equipment.  After using snooper on the device I see that we get the following error. 

After googling I didnt find much one person said to try updating the client software which we did another said reboot the CX to flush cache well we have to reboot every 20 minutes.

The last few days i have been racking my brain over the deployment processes of Lync Mobility in a Lync 2013 environment. 

What has got me confused is the process of lyncdiscoverinternal and the autodiscover certificate. 

As far as I am aware, All lync 2013 clients require either lyncdiscover or lyncdiscoverinternal DNS records to determine whether they are internal or external to the corporate network. 

Thats understandable.

What I cant understand, is the fact that the lync 2013 mobile client, when obtaining lyncdiscoverinrternal.domain.com (which points to the internal address of the front end pool) contacts the Lync front end services for the auto discover record and is prompted for the certificate that's provided from the web services on the front end. This certificate is signed by my Internal CA. Is that intended behavior?. because 100% that device is not going to trust it. 

Because if after the autodiscover service has succeeded the Mobility client will then return the external UCWA services URL and then Hairpin via the reveres proxy back in.  This part here makes total sense. So now we have the Mobile client connected to the front end services VIA the reverse porxy. Public Certificate now.  

But the autodiscover part is stumping me. 

I can understand if I were to push all trusted CA certificates onto devices then this wouldnt be a problem. But is that feasible? I mean what about in BYOD scenarios, EG a college campus or school. Pushing certificates onto unmanaged devices is sometimes not an option. 

Have other people found solutions in getting the lyncdiscoverinternal record to work for mobility without installing trusted Root CA,s on mobility devices?

Or is a feasible option to create a new DNS for a Guest WIFI network and have only the lyncdiscover record exist just like it was an external network?

Or am i doing something wrong and missed and important design or configuration factor?

Is it possible to tell the Lync Mobility client to push ALL requests via the reverse proxy when on the internal network, Just like the old days when we issued "lyncdiscover" to the external Reverse Proxy address.

Getting an error while installing  lync debugging tools on Lync Front End Server with Operating system windows server 2012 R2. 

The error message being " installtion requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 x64 runtime 11.0.50727". However , while running the Lync server set up this version of visual c++ would have been installed already. Please help me to move forward.

Just wondering has anyone experienced this issue when accessing the portal URL for Lync (control panel and persistent chat) . This happens locally on the server and from my computer. Any feedback would be awesome!!! 

Admin setting are set in the topology and control panel "https://lyncadmin" and persistent chat "https://managementroom". Also DNS has been mapped as well. Mind you this is a new setup, do I need to configure anything in IIS?

I've updated to latest CU and fixed the agent not starting issue.  Now the agents run, and I can see the cache files growing.  But I get this blowing up the event log:

Log files created with Search-CsCLSLogging -Output "myfile.log"  produce this event and create an empty file.

I've tried copying the default.tmx from the Tracing folder to the Debbing folder, as suggested in other posts, but have the same results.

Interestingly, I can stop the agent service, and run the old OCSLogger Logging Tool program and can produce valid log files.

Any suggestions?

I was trying to find but didn't get clear , if i have multiple standard edition server 2013 lync. Both has different users, do i need srv record for both? and where lyncdiscoverinternal should point?

While I was running the mixed Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 Server, everything was OK.

Now I removed Lync 2010 and I have replication issue.

I double checked and I can resolve lyncedge name.  DNS records setup correctly.

I can telnet to and from Edge server to the port 4443.  Firewalls are disabled.

I setup HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\SendTrustedIssuerList value to 0.

Certificates are OK and I rebooted all servers multiple times.

Any ideas what else could it be?

We have an Office365 subscription and want to have Lync Online as our communication tool down the road. I have configured/entered all the right settings as advised in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iiKX_rmRf for the two licenses that came with our subscription. For testing purposes, I have installed the lync client on one on my Win7 workstation but get an error message: "Lync couldn't find a Lync Server for xxxx. There might be an issue with the DNS configuration for your domain. Please contact your support team." when I try to log on. 

Any input would help.

I am seeing the following error very frequently on all my Lync servers that are running the CLS agent:

LS Centralized Logging Agent Event ID 33041

It appears the errors started with the install of the August CU updating Lync to 5.0.8308.738.  Note, this error is with CLS, not Lync Debugging tools.  I have verified that ClsAgent.exe is using C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2013\Tracing\default.tmx, which is 23041 KB and dated 8/3/2014.

Anyone else seeing this?  Anyone have a fix?
