Skype for Business upgrade - No high availability or DR?

$

Hello,

I am interested in the in place upgrade option for Skype for Business from Lync 2013.  I currently have:

  • 1 Enterprise FE
  • 1 Backend
  • 1 Edge

So when checking over TechNet looking for the downfalls of the in place upgrade option I see:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn951396.aspx

"In-place upgrade does not support high availability or disaster recovery for Skype for Business Server."

So what does that mean?  After performing the in place upgrade I can't later add additional servers to my Front end pool?  I can't later add additional servers to my Edge pool?  I can't later implement SQL always on for my backend?

When I think of "in place upgrade", the traditional Windows "in place upgrade" comes to mind which is basically the "throw up in your mouth" "I have no other choice" option.  Would you put the Lync 2013 to Skype for Business in place upgrade in that class?  Such as, is the more best practice upgrade to just introduce a new Skype for Business server into the pool, move the users, decommission the old Lync 2013 server?

Thanks!

Lync 2013 monitoring - ssrs placement

I am deploying Lync Server 2013. Regarding monitoring, our databases are on a clustered SQL server. SSRS is not supported on a clustered server. Where should I put SSRS? Can it be on a stand alone server, separate from the database server?

Thanks in advanced for any help!

Lync Server 2013 with IIS ARR: no user photos for mobile clients

Hello

I am running Lync 2013 setup behind IIS ARR. Everything works fine except user photos on mobile clients. The mobility client logs the following for every contact:

ERROR APPLICATION CPerson.cpp/2608:GET-PersonData/contactPhoto failed with error E_ResponseUnknown (E2-1-5) for person /ucwa/v1/applications/213843693397/people/user.name@sipdomain.ext

INFO APPLICATION CTransportRequestRetrialQueue.cpp/725:Response received for req. GET-PersonData/contactPhoto(0523F354): E_ResponseUnknown (E2-1-5) (RemoteNetworkPermanentError); Done with req.; Stopping resend timer

I alos see this:

ERROR TRANSPORT TransportUtilityFunctions.cpp/1921:Accept-types (image/jpeg;q=1.0, application/vnd.microsoft.com.ucwa+xml;q=0.6) not found in Content-Type response from server (image/pjpeg).  Not decoding.

I ran all the relevant tests on the remote connectivity analyzer website, and I also tested the setup with Lync Connectivity Analyzer application with "Your deployment meets the minimum requirements for Lync Windows Store App." as result.

I think this would be related to ARR and the content type, but I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Any input is very appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Certificate Question

We are one step away from getting Lync up and running. Currently stuck on this Certificate deployment phase, and not sure how to handle it. Looking for some help. We currently do not have any internal Cert. Auth's in our environment. So wouldn't it be easier to just buy one from GoDaddy? Is there any good documentation out there besides TechNet that shows how to get this up and running using a GoDaddy CA for Lync?

External web service url and internal mobility clients

Hello,I'm having a hard time understanding how mobility clients use the external web services url when connected to an internal network.

We have a single standard front end and our external web services url is lyncext.contoso.com. We are using IIS as our reverse proxy.

I have read that a mobility client that is connected to the internal wifi will autodiscover and then all traffic goes to the external web services URL regardless of weather or not the mobility client is external or internal. Our internal DNS currently points lyncext.contoso.com to the external public IP address for lyncext.contoso.com and that traffic can't hairpin through the ASA firewall.

Can we create an internal DNS record that points lyncext.contoso.com to the internal ip address of the front end server?

Remove Lync 2013 Hosting Pack Schema?

Since Lync Hosting pack is no longer... is there a way to reverse the changes from the hosting pack? People say there isn't but there has to be a way.

I noticed the hosting pack contains an additional ServiceSchema.ldf and that is what I want to remove because it seems to conflict with Skype for Business. I have Lync 2013 on-premesis installed but it complains about the Service Schema

Skype for Business - Skype search Directory

Hi,

I have asked this question before but I did not get any proper answers and I think it deserves another attempt.

With Lync server patched up fully and the client updated fully and also Skype client installed and updated, I do not see the skype directory search in Skype4B client. I read online that someone had to do some tweaks in settings to get it to work.

Can someone confirm if this feature is indeed available and how to implement it?

Thanks,

In local network lync works well . Even lyncdiscover. But i can`t connect through internet.
Firewall has no restrictions. External IPs pings well.
I use Lync Connectivity analyzer. Here is log:

Hi all,

i want to ask about lyncdiscover. i am configuring lync server 2013. below is my configuration :

sipdomain :xxx.com

accepter domain : xxx.co.id

based on my low knowledge, when we tried to log in lync client from internal it will direct to lyncpool and the external will connect to edge.

i want to configure lync mobile, but when i tried to log in, lyncdiscover unable to resolve dns. i checked the configuration that my lyncdiscover pointing to lyncdiscover.xxx.com, even my condition is lyncdiscover is published by using lyncdiscover.xxx.co.id.

my question, should i publish my lyncdiscover.xxx.co.id ? or i am able to redirect from lyncdiscover.xxx.com to lyncdiscover.xxx.co.id ?

thanks for advice.

Does Skype for Business Web App plugin for Chrome use NPAPI?

$

Could someone verify that the new Skype For Business Web App Plug-in doesn't use NPAPI in Chrome?

- your Chrome version is 32-bit and is 42.0.2311.90 or higher

- the Chrome NPAPI plugins are disabled with chrome://flags/#enable-npapi (remember to restart browser)

and you can still connect to the meeting with audio and presentation capabilities by installing the new SkypeForBusinessPlugin.msi

Thanks,

Error when issuing certain Lync Server Management Shell Commands

$

Hello,

Before I get started, I'm going to provide a little bit of background.  We have two Lync pools, one in our active site, and one in our Disaster Recovery site.  Prior to a Disaster Recovery test a few months ago, the CMS was hosted on a SQL server at the primary site and I believe that the mirror backend server was the SQL server at the Disaster Recovery site although I do not have that documented and I didn't even know about the Get-CsConfigurationStoreLocation command until later.  During the DR test, we failed over the CMS to the DR site, and when we failed everything back after the test, we did not fail the CMS back to the SQL server at the Primary site because 1. the document that I was going off of said that we didn't need to and 2. when I tried, it failed.

Currently Get-CsConfigurationStoreLocation shows that the BackEndServer is the SQL server at the Disaster Recovery site, and the MirrorBackEndServer is blank.  (Get-CsTopology).ActiveCentralMgmtService.InstalledOn.Fqdn returns the FQDN of the FrontEnd pool at the primary site.

In Topology Builder, I'm not clear on which of the stores is for the CMS (if any) but none of them for the Primary site list the SQL server at the DR site (they all list the server at the primary site).

The problem I'm having is that certain commands are working fine from the Management Shell, and some are not.  For example, all Get- commands seem to be fine.  Set-CsUser is working, but Set-CsClientPolicy gives me this (I was trying to set a variable that we don't care too much about as a test, in this case HotdeskingTimeout):

Set-CsClientPolicy : ###50023:XdsPublishItems:The central management store
being accessed is not the active store. No data can be read or any changes can
be made to this store.
At line:1 char:1
+ Set-CsClientPolicy -identity "Global" -HotdeskingTimeout 00:06:00
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

   tion
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException,Microsoft.Rtc
   .Management.Internal.SetClientPolicyCmdlet

Any thoughts on how I can get this to work?

Thanks

Dylan

Hi Everyone,

I have recently upgraded my Front end and edge 2013 Lync installations to SFB 2015 I have followed every step and limited guide out there and so far all is going well.

The problem I have is when I run this cmd

New-CsPublicProvider -Identity Skype -ProxyFqdn federation.messenger.msn.com -IconUrlhttps://images.edge.messenger.live.com/Messenger_16x16.png
-NameDecorationRoutingDomain msn.com - NameDecorationExcludedDomainList "msn.com,outlook.com,live.com,hotmail.com" -VerificationLevel UseSourceVerification -Enabled $true-EnableSkypeIdRouting $true -EnableSkypeDirectorySearch $true

no matter what I do -EnableSkypeIdRouting $true -EnableSkypeDirectorySearch $truestays as false

I have followed this guide  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn705313.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 very closely and I believe successfully followed every step.

I just cant seem to get Skype directory search to be set to $true.

Many Thanks in advance

Paul

Replace External Certificate Edge - service disruption?

I need to replace my EXTERNAL certificate on my Edge servers (1 Edge pool, 2 edge servers in the pool) as the current one expires in the next few weeks. My question is - will there be disruption to service when I replace the current external certificate?

Event ID 33020 LS Centralized Logging Agent - Error while moving cache files to network share

I have the "AlwaysOn" CLS logging scenario running in my Lync 2013 Enterprise deployment.  I did not configure the CacheFileNetworkFolder option since i don't care about retaining these logs anywhere other than on the local drives of the Lync servers so i just left it blank.  Now every few hours or so I am getting Event ID 33020 in each Lync server and SCOM is firing an alert as well.

The CsClsLogging configuration is as follows:

PS C:\> Get-CsClsConfiguration

Identity                      : Global
Scenarios                     : {Name=AlwaysOn, Name=MediaConnectivity, Name=ApplicationSharing,
                                Name=AudioVideoConferencingIssue...}

                                Type=URI;Inserts=ItemURI,ItemSIP,ItemPII,
                                Type=CallId;Inserts=ItemCALLID,ItemURI,ItemSIP,ItemPII,
                                Type=ConfId;Inserts=ItemCONFID,ItemURI,ItemSIP,ItemPII...}
SecurityGroups                : {}
Regions                       : {}
EtlFileFolder                 : C:\CLSTracing
EtlFileRolloverSizeMB         : 20
EtlFileRolloverMinutes        : 60
TmfFileSearchPath             : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2013\Tracing\
CacheFileLocalFolders         : C:\CLSTracing

CacheFileLocalRetentionPeriod : 14
CacheFileLocalMaxDiskUsage    : 80
ComponentThrottleLimit        : 5000

Is there a way to stop the flow of these events without having to configure CLS to transfer the logs to a network share?

Lync server database definitions

Hi all,

I have deployed multiple response groups and am looking to do reporting on them. I did purchase UC analytics but unfortunately it is not a reliable software and provides consistently bad data. I have also tested Espera and found that to be quite problematic well. To cut the store short, I need to write my own application to generate reports and provide some live data on response groups. in order for me to do that I need to have a database reference.

I have gone through the database schema here:https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398370(v=ocs.15).aspx but that does not have any information on databases like rgsdyn and rgsconfig.

Is there anywhere I can find more information on Lync databases?

Thanks,

WARNING - Skype for Business Server 2015 has a normalization/matching bug - problem for those with Exchange Auto Attendants

$

MS support has confirmed a bug in SfB that prevents proper normalization and matching on transfers from Exchange Auto Attendants.  Still working the case but wanted to warn others using Sip trunks so they hopefully avoid jumping into this problem.

If you have Exchange auto attendants (ours are Exchange 2013) and use menu navigation to transfer to SfB users and/or response groups, the SfB front end doesn't properly normalize and match numbers.  This causes calls that previously were matched and properly routed internally under Lync 2013 server to instead be passed back out to the sip trunk provider (that is, assuming you have a route set up for either Site or Global voice policies - if you only have user policies and don't have a user policy assigned to your ExUM contact for the AA, the transfer will just fail altogether with the "blind" transfer event log error).

Assuming that your users have publicly routable DIDs, then having a Global or Site voice policy with a route will allow AA transfers to such users to succeed, since the number will pass back out to the sip trunk provider and return right back to SfB and get routed (the normalization bug only appears to hit calls from AAs).

If however, like us, your response groups use fake numbers that only route internally (+12345556789 for example), these transfers will still fail because the sip trunk provider won't recognize the number and will 404 the call.

We are still working with support on figuring out:

1) a workaround for the RG issue - granting a voice policy and/or dial plan to the ExUM contact and RG object does not help

2) what it is that causes the SfB front end to behave differently than Lync 2013 frontends and fail to normalize and thus match the internal numbers

Will update as we learn more.

Hi,

I am trying to enable federation with Skype. I have Skype4B (Lync) 2013. unfortunately when I go to prvisioning site at https://pic.lync.com and try to enter my access edge server, it says: "The Access Edge service FQDN you specified does not exist."

Does anyone have any idea why? searched online but apparently there are not answers.

Thanks,
