OCS R2 Co-existence with Lync 2013 - Client Experience

Hey All,

So here we are with our trusty OCS 2007 R2 deployment sitting alongside a shiny new Lync 2013 back-end with merged topologies and ready for user migration.    Currently all our users (4000) are running the OCS 2007 R1 client.

Can you share any experiences of the following scenarios and what the end user experience should be during our migration from OCS to Lync.   (by the way , the end users will actually be using the Skype for Business 2015 client, part of Office 2013 click to run).

1.  Can legacy OCS 2007 R1 clients share content with a migrated Skype user, by initiating from within a IM chat window?  (i/e invite them to joing a LiveMeeting)

2. Can newly migrated Skype users share content with legacy OCS users, by initiating from within a IM chat window?  (i/e invite them to a native Lync sharing session?)

3. Should a newly migrated Skype user be able to schedule and invite legacy OCS clients to a "skype meeting" from Outlook using the new Skype Meeting Outlook button?   The Legacy OCS client will join via the Lync web app, right?

So far I am getting the feeling we need the OCS 2007 R2 client on our 4000 strong user base, but we were told this was not necessary at the beginning...

What your views and experiences? Anything you can share will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Lync 2013 Hosting pack v2 and On prem Exchange 2013 Integration

Hi

I have in production a Lync 2013 hosting pack v2 system and I need to Integrate it with On-Prem Exchange 2013 for one of my tenants. The Lync hosting pack deployment guide mentions the following:

"To integrate the hosting pack with
Exchange on-premises, you need to establish a MPLS or VPN connection to the
on-premises network, and then establish an Active Directory trust relationship
between the on-premises Active Directory and you’re the Active Directory of the
hosting provider where the hosting pack is deployed."

I would like to get some feedback from someone that already performed such integration.

I would like to set up a separated Domain controller/AD on my side and create trust to the customer's site connecting thru IP Sec.  The Domain Controller/AD part is not clear to me as I am not expert on it.

Lync white screen

I have been trying to resolve an issue for a user on Windows 7 x64, who gets the dreaded White Screen when trying to join a Lync session.  I have looked around this forum, and keep seeing

Delete this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} .  That key does not exist on his machine.

I have updated his video card drivers from HP.  Resetting IE to defaults worked once, but the second time, it would not work.  Even going back in and resetting IE again did not work.

He has Office 2007 if that matters.

Any help is appreciated.

I am moving CAC functionality from Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013. I am successfully assign the CAC functionality to Lync Server 2013 Enterprise Edition Front End pool and publish the topology.

However, when executing bootstrap.exe (via deployment wizard OR command line), it fails with following error:

PowerPoint presentations do not show text but only graphics after uploaded

Hello,

I have a "small" problem with PowerPoint presentations in our Lync 2013 PoC deployment. We have deployed the FE and WAC server according to the deployment procedures, the FE is fully functional. For WAC, besides the procedure published in Technet we followed these recommendations:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219455.aspx

http://blog.insidelync.com/2012/08/lync-server-2013-preview-and-the-office-web-app-server-preview/

http://howdouc.blogspot.com/2012/08/installing-office-web-apps-server-for.html

We can upload pptx files in a conference but when apparently the content is fully uploaded, the text is ripped off the presentation, only graphics, brackgrounds are displayed. This consistently happens from the very simple presentations to the content-rich ones. Not sure where the problem is, whether in the Lync FE or in the Office Web Apps server. Our WAC server is configured with HTTPS, ran all the testings to check if is operational and apparently it is. the FE logs event 41032 that shows that the FE successfully discovered Office Web Apps server, 41034 is logged too.

This is very puzzling so any idea is very welcome.

required cert names for separate edge pools

Hi all, we have two datacenters each with their own SfB pool and edge pool.

Currently our SRV records point to sipeast.domain.com and sipwest.domain.com

We do have sip.domain.com on our cert, but I realized that it does not actually exist in DNS, nor is it referenced by any SRV records.  Our CX phones work just fine in this configuration.  As our cert renewal is coming due, I’m trying to figure out if I need to keep the sip.domain.com name on it.

How about in the same situation, but with multiple sip domains?  Do we need to have sip.domain2.com, sip.domain3.com etc on the cert?

Thanks!

How to setup the external web services FQDN if the SIP name different with AD domain name

$

Dear all,

Ive some confuse on the external web services FQDN setup:

My AD Domain name: domain.com

My SIP domain name: sipdomain.com

when deploy the topology, i set up the external web services FQDN to be "lync2013.domain.com" as same as the internal web services FQDN, but when i need to deploy the external mobility function, should i change the external web service FQDN from "lync2013.domain.com" to be "SIP.sipdomain.com"? as i know the mobile access the server via Mobility Service URL, which is associated with the external Web Services FQDN, if must change, then should i

1. change the "lync2013.domain.com" to be "SIP.sipdomain.com" in the topology builder.

2. Publish the topology.

3. modify the CA? how to do?

Thanks.

Cannot get Lync 2013 mobile clients to connect to my Skype for business server!

I have been trying fruitlessly to get lync 2013 mobile client to connect to my Skype for business server.  I cannot work out what is wrong as Skype for business clients can connect without any changes, the autodiscover seems to work for PC clients.

So what would be causing mobile clients to be unable to connect if PC clients can externally?

Im sure I have public DNS set correctly.  See below: -

I also have our on site root CA cert installed on the device as the first error i received was a certificate verification error, now i just get cannot connect error.

I found  an article that said i could just use our firewall to redirect ports 80 & 443 to 8080 & 4443 rather than use a reverse proxy so i went that route.

It must be communicating with my server shouldnt it if i got the certificate verification error, so cannot work out whats wrong?

I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Office 2013 Lync Unable to share desktop

$

I am running Win 7 64 bit OS and Office 2013 also 64 bit.  I had been running both office 2010 and office 2013 on my laptop (Dell M6600) and was able to run Lync and share my desktop.  I then unintentionally updated lync to Skype for Business via Windows Update.  Since then I have removed all office products and reinstalled office 2013 and not lync is not able to share my desktop.  All other functions work.  I can see other people's desktop just can't share mine.  When attempting to share it appears to time out.  The message is Couldn't connect because media is not setup correctly.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times now with no success.  I have since reinstalled office 2010 and lync 2010 as well as office 2013 back on my laptop.  Lync 2010 works fine.  I assume there is some installation file that is not being removed or reset that is causing the issue.   Any suggestions.

Thanks

Bill

Skype For Business 2015 Server - Management pack for SCOM (System Center Operations Manager)

$

Hey!

We recently updated our Lync 2013 Servers to Skype For Business Server 2015, after that the monitoring from SCOM stopped working. So I was looking for the new Skype For Business Management Pack but I can't seem to find it.

The only information I find about it, is this:

"

System Center Operations Manager is recommended.  We recommend that you monitor the health of your Skype for Business Server deployment to help ensure service availability for end-users. You can use the System Center Operations Manager Management Pack for Skype for Business that is available as a free download from Microsoft. With the Skype for Business Management Pack, you can proactively get real-time alerts when issues occur, run synthetic transactions to test end-to-end Skype for Business functionality, get reports for service availability, and so on.  This helps you to proactively respond to issues with your deployment before end-users experience them.

"

I have searched all around Microsoft Download Center, but I can't seem to find it.

Have somebody else located it, or maybe have some information about the release of it?

Thank you for your time!

Lync Server 2013 not properly updating Exchange-list-based Response Groups

$

We have an issue with our Exchange-list based RGs in Lync 2013 not getting updates properly.

For example, we have a response group Reception, which has ReceptionGroup@domain.com as its Exchange based membership group.

When I add user D to ReceptionGroup@domain.com, he shows up properly in Exch and in AD, but when I run Update-CSAddressBook (or wait for it to sync automatically), he never shows up in the RG list.  Running Get-CSRgsAgentGroup shows the same results - users A, B and C are in the group, but D is not.

When I run Update-CSAddressBook, I see several events indicating a successful User Replication, so I know it's at least attempting to process properly.

The only questionable event I see is this:

Event 30059

The older user are getting synchronized as part of current synchronization cycle for naming context DC=Domain,DC=org
Source of replication is: AddressBookReplication.
Resolution:
The issue should rectify itself in next synchronization cycle.

How can I narrow down where the disconnect is here?  Switching the group membership to 'Custom' works properly, but Exchange based memberships never seem to update correctly.

Lync 2013 Subscriber access and attendant doesnt answer

This issue is driving me nuts...

we have a lync 2013 deployed and everything runs great however we couldn't get voicemail to work. Now we moved to skyp for business as an in place upgrade.

After upgrade we can call a DID and the voicemail will pick up for that user, however if we call the subscriber access number it just rings and rings and rings no answer!! Same with Auto Attendant

Voicemail works if a call is placed to a user and message is left then we receive email great! We can also call our user did line and press * when the voicemail greeting starts and we can retrieve full voice setting functions....this is great and fine with that.

We have a line dedicated as a subscriber access and configured in the dial plan, we also have an auto attendant setup as well and configured in the dial plan. Each have their own dedicated DID. These lines never answer they just ring and ring and ring....very strange. We have created new dial plans and such to no avail

Can someone help us out or provide suggestion??

Thank you

Lync 2013 - Monitor permissions

Hi.

Im having a problem with deploying the monitoring databases on a backend sql server.
I run the following script:
Install-CsDatabase -DatabaseType Monitoring -SqlServerFqdn dbserver.fqdn -SqlInstanceName instance01

And receiving "Type: System.IO.IOException, Message: The network name cannot be found."
I am a member of
RTCUniversalServerAdmins and have sysadmin permissions.
Network discovery is turned on.
At the Lync server: "Verify the back-end is up and this Lync Server has connectivity to it. Verify that both Lync Server and the back-end were installed or modified by the same installation package.

At the sql server i see this in the event log: "Login failed for user 'domain\LYNC01$'. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided."

Which account do I need to give permissions for this to work?

Please have in mind im new to Lync.

Thank you.

OCS 2007 Non-R2 to Lync 2013 Rip and Replace

Hello,

I am sure this has come up, but i haven't found exactly what i am looking for.

We have a single 2007 non r2 OCS 2007 server in a Standard pool.

Our intention is to move to Lync 2013.

We are only using the OCS server for Internal IM and Screen sharing.

Can we just de-provision all the users and stand up the new system and re-provision everyone?

Should i run an uninstall, will this remove the built-in AD groups from 2007 and anything in the AD system partition?

Are there any AD Schema Attributes that i need to be concerned with?

I hope i gave enough information.

Thank you in advance.

Are my DNS records right? A couple other issues (internal mobility, web apps reverse proxy)

$

I am getting quite confused on what could be wrong with my Lync 2013 Standard deployment.  Here are my outstanding issues so far -

  1. Mobility works fine on 4G, but not when connected to internal wireless (asks to accept Enterprise CA cert, claims it cannot verify cert)
  2. Users on external network cannot share powerpoints during web conferences ("Some presenting features are unavailable due to server connectivity issues").  In line with this, internal testing of webapps.domain.com/hosting/discovery presents an XML page, but externally I receive a 502 Bad Gateway error.  We are using IIS ARR3.  I have tried setting up the web apps farm a couple different ways, but each results in either a 502 error or a 404.
  3. A quick test of federation is not working, most likely due to SRV record mention below (not a top priority).

We currently have OCS2007R2 deployed in a merged topology.  I am trying to get as much working as possible before we make the switch to only Lync 2013.  Because of this, I will note that sip.domain.com still points to old OCS server and any pertinent SRV records still point to OCS environment.

We are still waiting on an Audiocodes to do our PSTN/Dial-in plan portion.

Here are my Internal/External DNS records.  I am guessing I have a few extras that were added while trying to follow different guides and such, but now I am a bit confused on what is needed.  We run split-dns.
