Skype for Business Call Quality Dashboard - blank pages

$

Hi,

I've managed to install the CQD, corrected the Connection Provider for SSAS to SQL (it was using native client 11 not 10 for 2008 R2) to make sure the QoEArchiveUpdate job is running successfully, and corrected the IIS authentication per the deployment instructions. However I'm still getting blank pages in the web interface.

If I browse to http://localhost/CQD it prompts for Windows credentials and shows me the Skype CQD blue banner across the top with the Settings and Help icons in the top right, but nothing underneath. If I try going to System Health or User Dashboard List I just get "We couldn't retrieve data from the server. Try refreshing the page."

I've tried browsing from both IE (with compatibility view & trusted sites) and Chrome. Checked the IIS logs and not seeing any errors in there, nor in SQL. IIS authorisation is set to allow all users. Any more ideas?

SQL, SSAS and IIS all on one VM running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 with SP1, fully patched.

Using SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 with SP3.

EDIT - also changed authenticatedUserOverride for file access per the deployment instructions.

Thanks,

Jon

A/V conferencing pool

Hi there,

currently I got a lync2010-server and a 2013-server in my deployment ...both standard.

Just wondering - in my lync2010 topology I can find an a/v conferencing pool ... but not in my 2013-pool. Is there something missing? Or is this just normal?

Thanks

Marcel

Skype for business error while installing Server.msi

Hello,

Im trying to do an in place upgrade of skype for business from Lync enterprise 2013. Its saying that lync is already installed and therefor cant upgrade...which kind of defeats the whole in place upgrade thing. Here is the guide I am using

http://jaapwesselius.com/2015/05/12/upgrade-lync-2013-to-skype-for-business-2015-step-by-step/

Here is the initial error

Unable to Publish new topology

Hello,

Firstly there was a lync server which was installed by our last Admin the server was running on a virtual machine, the virtual machine no longer exist therefore the sever was not uninstalled properly. I believe some of its data still remains in Active Directory but im not as skilled enough with lync to know exactly where to look and how to remove. This poses a problem when publishing a new topology, i get the following error "The existing topology  identifies *****\rtc as the central management store, but the topology that you are trying to publish identifies ****\rtc as the central management store. The central management stores must match before the topology can be published."

how can i solve this problem without causing harm to my domain?

Co-location of persistent chat and monitoring databases on Standard Edition server

$

Hello, I've seen all kinds of different answers to this question around the web with conflicting answers.

We have a basic IM/Presence only install of Lync 2013 and now want to deploy Monitoring and Persistent Chat roles.

As per this blog, it states you can co-locate all of these on one FE server.
http://windowspbx.blogspot.ca/2012/07/aaa-donotpost-install-lync-standard.html

Which does match what this TechNet article states:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398131.aspx

However, in the Blog, it says you need to install Full SQL Server 2008 in order to collocate, yet this goes against what TechNet says is possible, in that you can have all databases in one instance:

  • Each SQL instance can contain only a single back-end database (for an Enterprise Edition Front End pool), single Monitoring database, single Archiving database, single persistent chat database, and single persistent chat compliance database.

I guess my question is, can I simply install Monitoring and Persistent Chat using the same default SQL Server 2012 instance that was installed along with the Front End Standard Edition server (RTC instance)? Or should I create a new instance? Or do I need to install a new SQL Server 2012 somewhere on a different server altogether?

Thanks!

Skype for Business Domain and Federation Issues

I'm deploying a Skype for Business Server and have a question regarding the domains for the Front End and Edge Server.  Can the FE Server be on the domain contoso.com while the Edge Server dns suffix be fabrikam.com?  We are trying to minimize the exposure of contoso.com to the outside world.

Issues I am having are listed below:

Internal IM works fine but I can't communicate with external federation providers.  I've verified _sipfederationtls._tcp.fabrikam.com and _sip._tls.fabrikam.com is accessible.  I've verified I can telnet to ports 5061 and 443.

The Microsoft remote connectivity analyzer all checks out except for this error:
Couldn't sign in. Error: Error Message: The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.
Error Type: TlsFailureException.

I get the following when I test a federated partner:

PS C:\Users\dip> Test-CsFederatedPartner -targetfqdn edgeserver.fabrikam.com
 -domain domain.com -proxyfqdn federation.messenger.msn.com

Target Fqdn   :

Lync 2013 federation with Skype and others company

$

1) We made a federation with Skype, the first day everything worked but we had to change our server public address EDGE as many as three times. Our firewall shows that Skype servers are still trying to connect to the previous address (the second). Apparently we can exchange text messages between Skype and our Lync 2013, but there is a problem with a combination of voice and video. How much time do you have to wait until Skype refreshes DNS records?

2)

We do not forbid federation with other companies. I have a problem when I communicate with an external company , I can send them a message , they receive it , but when they send me answer message, this message does not occur to me. I can see their status accessibility but my status they did not show .

What could be wrong?

How can i set the profilename to Global instead of the none existing Lucerna dial plan?

Copying configuration between pools

$

Hi everyone,

I have two central sites, each with a standard edition server. Each server / pool is in it's own geographic site as well central site within the topology.

After Lync 2013 being such a success within the company, we are now looking at replacing it with a full on Enterprise Edition solution, comprising of 3 x FE's, 2 x Med's, HA file store, mirrored SQL at each site, with each site/pool being paired with each other.

I've built the infrastructure out, and seems to be working so far. However we have quite a lot of configuration in our current Standard Edition pools around voice routing and RGS. I'm struggling to find much online about moving / copying the configuration from one pool into another... Is there a way I can essentially copy the RGS and voice routing configuration from the current standard edition pools over to the new enterprise edition pools?

Thanks - Steve

Move CMS database to a different SQL Server instance

$

We would like to move the Lync Server 2013 Enterprise CMS databases from one instance to another on the same SQL Server 2008 R2 cluster because we need to modify the SQL Server cluster's disk layout.

Is there a published, supported method for accomplishing this?  I found this article, but it seems incredibly complex (i.e. standing up another Lync Server 2013 Standard server).  Can't I just move the databases and then update the SQL Server in Topology Builder?

Did the CLSLogger in SFB debug tools just change for the worse?

$

I just installed the debug tools off the web on a new SFB server, and the CLSLogger tool seems to have changed for the worse.  Here's what the old version looked like (6.0.9305.0):

The new version (6.0.9319.0) is missing the "last 5 mins" button, which I've really started to like for grabbing traces off something I just reproed.  Much more cumbersome to have to choose date/time again.  Also, the default is now to open logs in notepad, instead of snooper, and I liked the way that the older version gave you the option to view in either (instead of it being hidden on a menu).  I'll have to keep a copy of the old version around if I want the old UI I suppose.

Update Additional Supported SIP Domain

$

Hi- Lync Server 2013 SE deployment: one FE server. Also have Exchange 2010. AD is single site, single domain.

We've changed our external domain name. Now I want to update Lync to reflect that. In Topology Builder, our external domain name is listed under Additional Supported SIP Domains. So my thinking is that I can highlight this entry, change the name in the text box from old_domain.com to new_domain.com, click on Update, then publish the topology.

That should propagate the new domain name out into Lync and AD and I should be good to go... Yes? No? Maybe?

I've already created a new Forward Lookup Zone in our internal  DNS for the new domain name and added all the Lync Related A and SRV records...

I also have changing the external DNS entries, as well as internal and external certs, on my list. Anything else?

Thanx

External Contact Searching from Skype for Business

I'm trying to add an external contact e.g. 'AY Design' from Skype for Business (SfB).

The results does not match when I'm searching from the normal Skype i.e. it doesn't appear on SfB.

Is it the format in which SfB searches for contact i.e using IM address that is causing this?

Lync 2013 - ARR for reverse Proxy Load Balanced

Hi,

I have completed a Lync 2013 deployment at a customer and what I would like to know is if it is possible to configure two IIS Reverse Proxies (through ARR) to be load balanced through a HLB. Can anyone point at a guide or a URL that explains the process?

Migrating from SE to new EE pool - RGS and other tips

$

Hi everyone,

Have two geographic sites, defined as separate central sites in Lync topology. At each site we have a single SE pool on Lync 2013.

We're rebuilding to a more resilient EE infrastructure with, mirrored SQL, OWAS, UM etc. Keeping the same topology (central site and pool at each geographic site).

As part of the deployment we wanted to move a couple of users over to the new pools for testing. But they would be using an RGS that is currently "owned" by one of the SE pools. Most people that are agents for the RGS's are in the old SE pool... so how can I test / run in parallel the RGS on both pools?

With the number of users involved we can't simply move everyone over at once... and I'm a little concerned that if I import the RGS config to the new pool with the -OverwriteOwner switch it will break / stop the SE pool from functioning.... What does this switch do exactly?

How can I have the RGS config on two pools at once, and have them both functioning? Is it even possible? Any recommendations on how to do a migration including a test phase for this scenario...?

Thanks - Steve

Strange things happend to my response groups

$

Hi there,

we used a lync2010 deployment and are now migrating step by step to lync 2013 standard. I moved all the users, no issues. Now I moved all response groups and that gives me a huge headache. At first all seemed fine ... we got several phone extensions, such as"0", "33" and "45". I see my migrated workflows, queues and groups side by side to the old one.

But if I dial e.g. "0", I can only hear the music that is configured for "on hold" and get forwarded after 15 seconds (as configured). It doesn't ring the primary group. When it rings the secondary group (in this case 45) not all members are "ringing".

The extension "45" seems to dial directly the configured group, but again - not all members.

Our most important extension is the "0" ...

Currently I try to create a new group and a blank workflow ... for testing purposes.

What may be wrong here?

Regards
Marcel

Lync Server 2013 Federation - Firewall planning and client configuration

$
0
0

Dear all,

We run into a rather strange issue (from my point of view) with federation and firewalling. And I need to understand whether it is a configuration issue (can be changed) or by design (cannot be changed).

Setup:

Our side:

Edge Server, configured with three public IP addresses and one internal IP address.

Clients are in client vlan.

Other side:

Edge Server, configured with three public IP addresses and one internal IP address.

Clients are also in a client vlan.

Connection:

As the other side is a partner, we have a side2side VPN in place. So both client vlans are routed but protected by firewalls and only selected services are allowed. The firewall rules do reject packets and don't drop them, as the partners network is labled as semi-trusted.

Issue:

1. Client starts communication with federated partner. (Voice call or IM) - works

2. Either party adds an additional service like Application Sharing. - fails

Troubleshooting and facts so far:

- Initial session is routed through the Edge server.

- The second service tries a peer2peer session, as the both client vlans are routed.

- After the firewall rejects several tries of this p2p session, the service fails. Error message indicates a problem in the network.

- When we configure the firewall to drop the request rather than reject them, the client tries additional ways to connect and ends up by routing also the additional service through the Edge server.

- To use drop instead of reject is not an option for the network/firewall team.

Questions:

1. Why tries the Lync client to initiate a p2p session, when the initial session is routed through the Edge server.

2. Why is a reject handled different than a drop by the client?

3. Is there an option I can force federation services through the Edge server?

4. What would happen, when a a federated partner has the same subnet used for their clients as we use for ours?

Thanks in advance
