Custom icon for persistent chat rooms?

$

We've got a couple of persistent chat rooms set up on our Lync 2013 environment and all working fine.

Just wanted to know if you can set an icon for a persistent chat room?  We've got a grey blob with a speech bubble inside it and it look boring and no distinction between one room and another.

Lync Server 2013 to Skype for Business Server 2015 - Side by Side Migration guide?

$

Hi,

So, I know the official advice is to do an in-place upgrade of LS2013 to SfBS 2015.

But, in my environment we can't easily do that. Basically, the server running LS2013 (Standard Edition) has a number of issues including not being able to install any Windows Updates for about a year, and it's on Windows Server 2008 R2 which is getting on a bit, and also seemingly some .NET errors that I haven't been able to fix. It works as a Lync Server, bit I'm not sure I'd consider it stable. It's Standard Edition single server (though we have a separate Edge server as well).
I basically can't risk doing an in-place upgrade because it's very likely to fall over.

So, I've been scouring the net trying to find a good actual guide for doing a side-by-side migration and not come up with one.

I've been using the Lync 2010 -> Lync 2013 official Microsoft docs as a guideline, but it's obviously not all relevant.

I found this but it's only the 1st half of the article and I've already got that far. Looks like Part 2 was never written.

What I need is all the steps for moving users (straightforward), response groups (less so), Exchange integration (much less so), whateverelseisneeded, and then finally decommissioning the Lync Server 2013 afterwards.

Anyone got any good links, Microsoft or 3rd party?

Thanks,

Sam

Skype for Business 2015 Web app will not install on Windows 7/10 if Skype for Business is already installed?

We have come up with a situation after the last Skype update, might be also related to an Office update, where if a person in another Business has there Skype for Business App installed on there Windows computer that the Web App will not install to join a meeting with another organization. This was working before must be sharing some dll that is being used. Can we get this fixed or is there a work around. P.S. this is all on premise. No cloud please.

New Skype for business installed and configured
Internal DNS Requirement: created a DNS entry for Edge server as it is workgroup joined with 2 Nics, one with internal interface and other in DMZ facing the firewall. The firewall allows the port communication.

External DNS Requirement:Created external DNS records for the external IP addresses configured on the
edge servers:
      Access Edge Service
      Web Conferencing Edge Service
      Audio Video Edge Service

SRV records created
     _sip.tls.domain.com
     _sipfederationtls._tcp.domain.com
     _xmpp._tcp.domain.com

I have found some issues today with my new Skype for Business 2015 deployment.

I am unable to call internal users when I am outside the network it gives network issue.
when I share my desktop with external users it says network issue
When I host a Skype meeting via outlook and click on the generated link it gives me error

Please advise

Running SEFAUtil remotely

Hi,

I have set up SEFAUtil on a computer where I am able to run it and it returns a correct output. Recently we developed an webservice that is running on a different server and needs to make some modification to Lync server using SEFAUtil. However, when trying to invoke the util remotely in PowerShell (or with winrs in cmd), it returns an error message when /verbose parameter is present:

Cannot read contacts from Active Directory: Active Directory error "-2147016672"

However, if no parameters are passed to the util, it successfully prints out its help so this means that the remote command works, but the problem is somewhere between SEFA and Lync server. We have also tried issuing command Enable-PSRemoting, but this did not change the situation.

Is there any way of invoking SEFAUtil remotely and getting the result?

Thanks.

Issue with IOS not passing Conference ID when dialing into a meeting

When I dial into a Conference, my Android passes through the Conference ID instead of me having to type it out when asked. It has been reported by iOS users that this does not happen.  Is this just an IOS thing we have to live with or can something be done on the Lync 2013 side to change this.

My guess is it's just a problem with IOS and Apple needs to make some changes. I don't know I could possibly make any changes on the Lync side to get this to work.

Is RtcUniversalServerAdmin required for Skype for Business Server Installation?

I'm not sure whether I posted to the correct forum. But I can't find a SFB forum.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204623(v=ocs.15).aspx

In above article, it says I need RtcUniversalServerAdmin to install SFB server. However, I strongly doubt so. In my opinion, as long as topology is pre-published properly, the installation process only makes changes to local SFB machine, not AD, not CMS. So Domain User and local admin should be enough.

I did lab test. The result seems to shows I was right. I installed front end server and mediation server successfully without any SFB rights. Setup log shows no error. Get-CsWindowService shows all services are running. Get-CSmanagementStoreReplicationStatus show CMS is replicated to all servers.

So there are 2 possibilities. Either the TN article is wrong, or there are some special scenarios which requires RtcUniversalServerAdmin right but I did encounter it.

I would like to see your view on this.

  • Do you think the TN article is wrong?
  • If not, why SFB installation requires RtcUniversalServerAdmin?
  • In which situation is it needed?
  • In which step is it needed?

Thank you in advance for your input!

We are running Lync Server 2013 using Skype for Business clients.

We are planning an upgrade to Polycom’s RealPresence Clariti.  I can not find any compatibility matrix for this type Lync server / S4B client configuration.

I assume that all is compatible but was wondering if anyone has seen documentation to state such??

Lync 2010/13 Edge Server Deployment

I'm having issues designing the topology for my access edge server.  Mainly the NIC requirements and using a NAT.  So I'm planning to use a single IP for all edge services.  I've got 2 NICs, one is on a DMZ zone, the other is on our regular connected network.  I've created a topology as follows.  Will this work?

Intenral server FQDN:  lyncxxx.xxxxxx.com

Internal IP address:  internally connected IP

Federation: Enabled

NAT:   public facing IP address pointed to the internal IP address

rep port: 4443

next hop: front facing lync 2010 server (existing)

external settings

SIP/WEB/AV FQDN- lyncxxx.xxxxxx.com

IP address: NAT public facing IP address

what I"m confused about is the option "the external IP address of this Edge pool is translated by NAT".  Currently, I've entered the NAT address as the external public facing IP address and the 'external IP' of the pool as the internally connected IP.  Should the 'external IP' be the DMZ zone NIC IP?

Reassign fileshare

Hi,

I'm about to reassign the Front-End file store in our Lync Server 2013 environment because there is problems with the one we got on a NetApp share.

Everywhere I read it seems that I need to stop all services on all servers in the pool I want to reassign storage for than copy stuff from the old file store to the new one. Is that reallynecessary? Can't I just reassign the file store and bootstrap the machines in the pool? Or at least reboot them one at the time? And why copy stuff, isn't it recreated?

The reason I'm asking is that we have two pools in a pool pairing environment, with 5 servers in each pool. During a pool failback, when all services is down in the primary pool it takes about 3-4 hours to get them started again. I rather avoid that if I can :)

I will be very grateful for any help or tips on this.

Regards

Micke

Lync 2013 Mobility

Hi Gurus,

I have a Lync 2013 environment comprising  of

Lync 2013 Standard Server.

Lync 2013 Edge Server.

Reserve proxy.

Everything is configured and working fine including Lync Mobility when using a 3G card.

My only problem is  with Lync mobility from internal network.I have configured all DNS records according

to TechNet more in particular as needed in  this case the  Lyncdiscoverinternal A record pointing to the FE Server.

However my internal  Mobile clients still cannot connect to Lync they get the error "cannot connect to server".

When i run the Lync Connectivity Analyzer i get the error

"Server discovery failed for secured internal channel against https://lyncdiscoverinternal.servername.com/"

what could I be getting wrong .

Thanks in advance

CLS Logging not being purged

We have "Always On" enabled and set to purge logs after two days but they aren't being purged. CLS data shows "Access denied" when attempting to purge and am also seeing that when running process monitor. Could this possibly be a rights issue? We can run a cleanup script just fine to delete the files...

I have two Lync 2013 standard servers and I replaced the drives the second server over the week-end to give it more space and everything is running. I want to do it to the main server. Is there a step be step guide on what services and how to move the users from one server to the other?

Connection Attempt to Pool Failed

$

Hello,

I have two Lync server pools, pool 2 is used for DR. I'm seeing an LS Protocol Stack error on my front end servers in pool 2 not able to connect to "at least one service" on our pool 1 edge servers.

LS Protocol Stack, Event ID 14584

Connection attempt to at least one service in a pool failed.

Then it lists both edge servers in pool 1.

Verified both edge servers in pool 1 have all Lync services running. The error doesn't appear on the pool 1 front end servers.

Is this related to certificates?
