Moving users from hybrid on-premises to Lync Online

We are in the process of moving users from our on-premises system (5000+) and it is finally moving at a steady pace but every so often it fails with the error message "request channel timed out increase timeout" error.  For the life of me I cannot find the settings to increase the time out time in any of the many web.config files I found under the Lync\Program Files folder.  Has anyone else had issues with this error?

Skype for business 2015 Edge Server SSL Certification Failure

Anyone had the issue when deployed SFB 2015 edge server with single external IP and NAT enabled I get an SSL Certification error from https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com “The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer is attempting to obtain the SSL certificate from remote server skype.gendac.co.za on port 443.” I am using a wildcard Certificate and all services are running on my edge server. Any suggestions?

Online Teams users unable to communicate with on-premise SFB users.

We have Lync Server 2013 and o365. I am unable to configure Hybrid mode.

It says: "TeamsUpgradePolicy cannot be set because Microsoft has already upgraded this organization".

Microsoft online support said that:

"Sorry to say that we can only use Teams only mode in your tenant" and gave this link

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4465277/microsoft-teams-now-the-primary-client-for-meetings-and-calling

Is there any workaround to let Online users communicate with on-premise?

Lync 2013 with Exchange 2010/2016 UM Co-Existence

$

Hi Everyone,

I cannot get Lync 2013 to provide voice mail on my migrated Exchange 2016 mailbox (from 2010)

Overview:

I'm in the process of migrating from Exchange 2010 to 2016. Right now I'm running a co-existence, same network, etc. of Exchange. Exchange 2010 is still the primary system with autodiscover.domain.com and webmail.domain.com (with EWS, ActiveSync, etc. all running through 2010). I've only moved my mailbox to 2016 for testing. DNS names are autodiscover2.domain.com and webmail2.domain.com for Exchange 2016.

We use Lync 2013 as our VoIP and utilize the UMS portion of Exchange.

Exchange 2016 is configured with the dial plans, gateways, etc. and I have run ExchUcUtil.ps1 on these servers. I have set UMStartUpMode to TLS, assigned a trusted cert to the UM Service.

So, clearly I'm still missing something because when I dial my extension (from a cellphone) the call comes in (expected) however when it should go to Voice Mail, Lync says "the call cannot be transferred" and brings me back to our main menu.

This is an output of the Lync 2013 server call.

JUNE 2019 Update Failure - Multiple Errors

$

Hi All,

So lets make a long story a bit shorter, but hopefully I don't miss anything critical!

Started with a Lync 2013 deployment on a patch level of something mid 2015. On the first Front End server, I drained services and installed the most up to date JUNE 2019 CU update. All went fine except the WEB SERVICES.

This failed with errors:

  • FROM Lync_patchinstallerlog: [9/07/2019 9:12:26 PM] ERROR 1603: WebComponents.msp had errors installing.
  • FROM WebComponents log: Error 25542. Failed to find node: /configuration/system.webServer/security/authentication/windowsAuthentication in XML file: C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config, system error: -2147020584

According to multiple staff and external contractors that have tried to update these servers before me, they have never been able to update the servers. Their errors they can't remember as it's been a few years. But lets just say it's not because of the most recent update.

Looking around the next someone said that he had the same issue on a brand new server build, so he rebuilt the server from scratch, copied out that XML before the web components installer then had the paste back the clean file every time he tried to update. So I uninstalled Web Components, IIS, ASP, URL Re-Write & reinstalled it all except web components with reboots in between as required.

Did a final reboot, tried to install the Web Components from the deployment wizard and it passes all re-req's fine but fails during the install with the following error

"Error 26032. Failed to schedule install of IIS Web Sites"

I'm doing a restore of the server from backups to pre-update state now... But anyone got any ideas before I try again?

Unable to remove old RTC databases from topology

Im in the process of removing two central sites from a Lync deployment that contains the following:

3 central sites
2 of these sites are Lync enterprise 2013 pools
the 1 remaining site is a Lync 2013 standard edition pool

Central site 1:
3 x Lync enterprise front end servers (2013)
RTC database (mirrored with witness) - used to contain the central management store until it was moved to Central Site 3
MONITORING database (mirrored with witness)
ARCHIVING database (mirroed with witness)
PerChat database4 x persistent chat servers

Central site 2:
3 x Lync enterprise front end servers (2013)
RTC database (mirrored with witness)
MONITORING database (mirrored with witness)
ARCHIVING database (mirroed with witness)

Central site 3:
1 x standard edition server
1 x edge server
RTC database (active with the central management store)

I have successfully removed the front end pools from central sites 1 and 2, but when I go to remove the RTC database, I receieve the following error in the topology builder:

When attempting to remove the mirror RTC database:
"This SQL Server Store is being used. Remove the dependencies before deleting the store. Affected Services: *blank*"

When attempting to remove the RTC witness database:
"This SQL Server Store is being used. Remove the dependencies before deleting the store. Affected Services:
Role 'CentralMgmtStore' on SQL instance 'StandardEditionServer01.contoso.net\rtc'
Role 'CentralMgmtStore' on SQL instance 'EnterpriseEditionMirrorSQLServer\RTC'

Additionally, when I run Get-CSService, I can see the following:

Identity             : CentralManagementDatabase:StandardEditionServer01.contoso.net
SqlInstanceName      : rtc
DependentServiceList : {CentralManagement:StandardEditionServer01.contoso.net}

I have ran Uninstall-CSDatabase and received the following:

How can I safely remove these databases from the topology builder without affecting the live production standard edition environment?

Lync Access Edge service won't start with error 7024

I had my edge server setup and running. It's been a few weeks since I checked it, but now the Access Edge service won't start. I'm getting event id 7024. The error says there is something wrong with the root certificate. Why all of a sudden it doesn't work? I'm running an internal certificate I imported from my domain and a wildcard for my external certificate.

"The Lync Server Access Edge service terminated with the following service-specific error:

A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider."

Event ID 33020 LS Centralized Logging Agent - Error while moving cache files to network share

I have the "AlwaysOn" CLS logging scenario running in my Lync 2013 Enterprise deployment.  I did not configure the CacheFileNetworkFolder option since i don't care about retaining these logs anywhere other than on the local drives of the Lync servers so i just left it blank.  Now every few hours or so I am getting Event ID 33020 in each Lync server and SCOM is firing an alert as well.

The CsClsLogging configuration is as follows:

PS C:\> Get-CsClsConfiguration

Identity                      : Global

                                Name=AudioVideoConferencingIssue...}

CacheFileLocalRetentionPeriod : 14
CacheFileLocalMaxDiskUsage    : 80
ComponentThrottleLimit        : 5000

Is there a way to stop the flow of these events without having to configure CLS to transfer the logs to a network share?

I have a MacBook Pro that was completely wiped, installed OS X Catalina, Skype for Business - Version 16.28.130 and a new certificate. I open  Skype for Business app, enter my username and I get the error message: "There was a problem verifying the certificate from the server. Check your device’s clock settings, or contact your support team”    The date/ time/ time zone are all correct.

I also have this issue with another MBP that I cleared caches, files in library etc so I tried on completely clean computer and have the same issue.

Is there an problem connecting OS X Catalina to a Lync 2013 server using Skype for Business?

Thanks

Hi,

Couble of weeks ago I changed the Lync file share location. It went smootly, but since then the backup service as not been so happy.

ConfServices.DataConf                                         NonSteadyState                                 ErrorState

I have once already took the pool pairing of, and made it again. But above event appears every 10 mins into Event log.

I tried to use msUSmeNOW advices as well, but there were nothing for these :(

And on the application log I can see the following:

Lync 2013 - control panel (cannot sign in)

Greetings.

After installing standard Lync 2013 pool (it's coexisting with our Lync 2010 in production environment), everything went well until I wanted to open Lync control panel on the Lync2013 server.

When I start icon Lync control panel it gives me URL's from previous Lync control panel 2010 and from Lync control panel 2013. If I chose 2010 URL I am able to sign in with an domain admin, but if I choose lync 2013 control panel URL I am not able to log in with an domain admin.

And yes domain admin is a member of CSAdministrator group.

I have looked permissions on the Lync 2013 server under IIS\sites\lync server internal web site\cscp and I see that domain admin has full permisionss. Under authentication only Windows Authentication is enabled by default.

LyncIntManagement application pools has identity: NetworkService.

Domain admin is a local admin on this Lync 2013 server.

Even If I manually type Lync Control Panel URL in IE: https://newlync2013srvname.company.local/cscp I can not login. It looks like I was typing the password and credentials window reopens just like I would typing the wrong password. I have checked in AD if domain admin is locked out but it isn't. Keyboard input settings on the Lync 2013 server are set up right, because if I type password in notepad I see that I'm typing the right words.

I have added https://newlync2013srvname.company.local to trusted sites.

Restarted server several times, don't know where else to look for the root of this problem.

Please help. It's a fresh installation of Lync 2013 server.

Federation issue's

we have implemented a three site approach, where each region has its own Edge and front-end pools. The access Edge pool is located in Europe. A few weeks ago we replaced our Access Edge Server (Lync2013), with a SkypeForBusiness Access Edge server.

In Europe and Apac people are still able to federate, however people in AMER region are no longer able to federate. When i Run Test-csfederation on the front-end pool in AMER i get a success, however people cannot federate while people in other region can.

We did some logging, and what we see in the logging is "Start-Line: SIP/2.0 404 Not Found"  and "ms-diagnostics: 1003;reason="User does not exist".

Any idea what could be wrong, or get more logging on the issue? The CLSScenarios which i have used are "AlwaysOn" and "IMPrecense".

Answers provided are coming from personal experience, and come with no warranty of success. I as everybody else do make mistakes.

 Hi,

this is a quick question. I am having problem installing new VMWare Lync 2013 servers to replace  of Physical FE server.

Seems to work for one VMWare server but when i add new server I do not get the pool started. Cannot see any network problems   that could stop this. The next step is to instll twp new win severs for fe and a new SQL server an create a new pool, just to

find out the what the problem is.

So has anyone  converted physical Lync 2013 Frontend sever  to VMWare server with VMWare convert tool or any other tools.

 thanks.

Hi All,

I get the following response when i initate replication with edge servers. Both the servers are in edge pool.

The FE servers can resolve the host names using the internal DNS, 4443 port is open from FE to Edge servers. I have reimported the topology and run the first 2 steps as well. But the error remains the same.
