Lync 2013 Std edition: Front-End plus conferencing services crashing

We have one standard edition Lync 2013 server that last week the services started crashing on it (randomly?)

When this happens the following are in the event logs:

We have recently deployed a reverse proxy and edge server to enable external and mobile access to Lync 2013. All features are now functional, but I've noticed this recurring error every hour or so on the Lync Front End machine.

During configuration we were having some access issues to the web services and some of the authentication may have been changed and not reverted. Below are the current authentication settings on the relevant web services.

Lync Server External Web Site: Anonymous Authentication Enabled, Windows Authentication Enabled

CertProv: Windows Authentication Enabled

Lync Server Internal Web Site: Anonymous Authentication Enabled

CertProv: Windows Authentication Enabled

Is there somewhere I can find what the default configurations should be for all these web services?

Thank you,

Nick

Need help with Lync server 2013 Public certificate CA installation

Hi Everyone,

I am quite new with Lync server 2013 deployment, I have setted up a testing environment, and using GoDaddy UCC certificate.

I did import the certificate to Lync Edge server and reverse proxy server, it is working fine for external users.

The problem happened after I import the certificate to front end server, IM, A/V and conferencing stopped working.

I have checked the lync server log, it shows the MTLS connections issue.

Please give some advices on how to fix this issue.

Event ID: 59068

Authentication of incoming MTLS connection from Web Conferencing Server failed.

Serial number of cert provided by Web Conferencing Server.

Cause: Authentication for incoming MTLS connection failed.

Resolution:

Ensure that the certificate used by Web Conferencing Server is valid.

Migrate Lync 2013 edge pool, new SIP access FQDN, what about direct federation partners?

$

Hi,

This should be a simple, but could not found official answer to this question:

A company is currently in a co-existence scenario of Lync 2013 and Lync 2010, there is one edge server pool for each version, let's say the Lync 2010 edge pool is using the following external FQDN's:
sip.company.com, webconf.company.com, and av.company.com
sip.company.com is pointing to the SIP access service VIP of edge 2010 pool.
currently federation route is configured for the Lync 2010 edge pool
Lync 2013 edge pool external FQDN's are the following:
sip2.company.com, webconf2.company.com, and av2.company.com
sip2.company.com is pointing to the SIP access service VIP of edge 2013 pool.

The problem:
I've got many federation partners that configured direct federation to my company, using domain namecompany.com
and access edge service FQDN: sip.company.com

What will happened, when I'll change the federation route to the new Lync 2013 edge pool that usessip2.company.com? I afried federation will not work properly, since my federated parthenrs used different access edge service FQDN (sip.company.com)

In this case, what can I do in order to keep federation connectivity alive, when decommissioning old Lync 2010 edge pool, without asking each one of my federation partners to change the access edge FQDN of my company to sip02.company.com on their side?

Thank you

Issues with Lync 2013 Mobile Client - Error 300 (E2-3-33)

Hi All,

We're currently having reoccurring issues with our staff connecting to the Lync 2013 mobile app on all platforms.

We run an IIS ARR Reverse Proxy - which I think where the problem is.

We were running ARR 2.5, which I've upgraded to 3.0 as I've seen in some threads.

The testconnectivity.microsoft.com shows that everything is fine from an autodicover point of view.

No changes have been made to firewall rules, server or IIS ARR settings from when it initially worked.

I've turned off Windows Updates in case a new updates causes a problem.

Lync 2013 Mobile app is up to date on my devices.

I am getting an error when running the MS Lync Connectivity Analyser: Verification failed for Mobility (UCWA) service. The service could not be reached from an external network.

I'm unsure how to restart the Lync UCWA application pool on the Front End (but I suspect that is not the problem)

We had the same issue 3 weeks ago, which might have been down to the webext.domain.com server farm health check, which made it think it was unreachable.  We disabled the health check and it came back up.  Currently it is disabled.

I've been searching the internet high and low for anyone that appears to have a similar issues to me, but nothing really comes close or works.  I cannot seem to find any details on the error messages that are displayed by the Lync 2013 mobile clients either.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Lync Response Group Manager - cannot change opening hours

$

Hi all

I've run into an odd problem with Lync Response Groups with Lync 2013 Server. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before or knows of a solution. I've searched around but can't find any reference to this particular problem.

Response supervisors who are defined in the workflow and are a member of the AD group CSResponseGroupManager cannot change working hours for their response group from a custom schedule to a preset in the web interface.
If the workflow is already set to preset they can switch between existing presets, and they can switch from preset to custom. But once it has been set to custom they cannot change it back to preset.

They can select to do so but when they click Save they receive an error on the page saying "The term 'Remove-CsRgsHoursOfBusiness' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again."

I don't believe this is by design, why would you want a workflow manager to be able to switch between presets or to custom but not back again?

If they are a member of CSResponseGroupAdministrator this works, however this is not really a solution as members of this group can edit all workflows and we don't want the managers of a workflow for one department able to access the workflows of another.

Any information greatly appreciated.

Issues repairing a Lync Server 2013 deployment

Hi,

Due to a malfunctioning of CAC service I decided to uninstall and then install those components again (using the Wizard).

I unchecked CAC in Topology Builder and republished.

Then I followed the steps:

1) Install Local Configuration Store

I found a problem. The last command, Replicate-CsCmsCertificates, arises an error (the others run fine):

I haven't found anything about this error. When I checked the log:

It only said something related to a registry key, probably permissions.

I compared the three registry keys with the name "LS Replica Replicator Agent Service" with other Lync Server's registry that is working and they are the same. The keys are inHKLM\System\{ControlSet001|ControlSet002|CurrentControlSet}\services\eventlog\Lync Server.

Nevertheless, when clicking "Finish" Step 1 state was Complete, so I went on.

2) Setup or Remove Lync Server Components

It was OK and removed PDP (CAC) components.

3) Request, Install or Assign Certificates

Didn't do it as they were right.

4) Start services

None services started:

     Front-End, error -2147024809

A/V Conferencing, error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

     And so on.

I have tried several things:

a) Deleting xds-replica so it creates it again: it fails in Replicate-CsCmsCertificates also

b) Deleting and repeating Certificates step: they go right but OAuth certificate, that end also with a Replicate-CsCmsCertificates and fails

c) Repairing software through Control Panel>Programs: it didn't work as it failed again when repeating the steps

Maybe I could try to uninstall all the software and install again but I'm not sure it's going to work and I would prefer to know what's happening so, if the other Lync Server fails (other environment, not the same pool), be able to fix it. The pool has just one server and I'm not sure if I can "delete" the server and deploy it again keeping the information in the database about users, monitoring, etc.

Does anybody have an idea about what could be happening?

(Server was patched to last month updates)

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards.

Check event details.  Check autodiscovery Uri is properly configured and reachable. Check that proxy setting is properly configured and reachable.  Validate Lync to Exchange Autodiscovery configuration by following the trouble shooting guide. If problem persists, notify your organization's support team with the event details.

Not sure why it is trying to use https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.svc. Is this correct?  I thought it should behttps://lyncdiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.svc orhttps://lyncweb.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.svc.

If I run Get-CsService -WebServer | fl  autodiscover*, I receive the following output:

AutodiscoverServiceExternalUri : https://lyncweb.domain.com/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root
AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri : https://lyncpool.domain.local/Autodiscover/AutodiscoverService.svc/root

As I said, everything looks good and working. Anyone has any ideas what that is?

Thank you.

Thank you. Eric.

Client unable to search partial names after internal web F5 VIP placed

$

0

I am running a dual pool set up, all 2013 EE on 2012 R2.

So, the other day I finally got access to a hardware load balancing solution.  Not wanting a full conversion and to keep SIP flowing through DNS, I opted for balancing the internal web services.  There is a separate administrator that handles F5; thus, I am F5 knowledge deficient.

After having the VIP set up, I placed it's FQDN in the Override FQDN field within the Lync Topology Builder, published the topology and re-ran set up on each server.  Keep in mind, that for some reason the builder already had the Lync pool FQDN in the External Web Services FQDN.

Having enabled this new logical route for Lync web services, I have run into a problem, users are unable to search partial names but inputting a full SIP address yields the result.  All clients are forced to do Web Search Only and the GALInitialDownloadDelay across the board is 0.  HLB is set to allow 80, 8080, 443, and 4443.  I know that 8080 and 4443 are for external VIPs but it's better to ask for more and need less than ask for less and need more.

I have a few areas I think I goofed on but I am not able to change "willy nilly."

-Do I need to reissue the server certificates to include the FQDN of the VIP that points to the F5?  I was noticing a certificate error on my web checks after the change.

-Do I need to reroute the exchange connection, somehow, to point to the VIP instead of the pool address?

-Do I need to remove my internal pool name from the External Web Services FQDN, or is that normal?  Ideally I believe I would just point EWSFQDN to my Reverse Proxy internal interface VIP, that would be set up soon-ish.

Clarification, links to articles, or personal experience is appreciated.  I've read through most (if not all Schertz's articles), technet (maybe sentence I missed), the F5 documentation, and NextHop.

TL;DR - When I put an F5 VIP FQDN into the Internal Web Services FQDN, Lync clients can't search and websites receive certificate errors.  I believe it is certificate related but am unsure.

Thank you.

Hello,

We have some issues with a Lync deployment and we are unsure if it's related to network issues, dns or something with lync itself.

I think it will be easier if I just start off with posting the log from a client in the problematic site and then we'll take it from there. What happens is that the client asks for username/password and fails to authenticate I guess. If the user switches over to a guest network, it immediatly authenticates and logs on.

There is some Norwegian in the log, will post here and translate.

Server 2012 R2 Web Application Proxy Multi certificate issues - Lync 2013

Configuring Lync 2013 reverse proxy requirements (using http://blog.kloud.com.au/2013/07/15/publish-lync-2013-with-2012-r2-preview-web-application-proxy/)

everything seems to have publish fine, rules are set certificate is set (internal CA cert is being used atm). when I try to run the Microsofts Remote Connectivity Analyzer I get failures trying to get to the Lyncdiscover.<domain>\autodiscover page, navigating to this page works, but an SSL error occurs. The wrong SSL certificate is given out during the request (the adfs.<domain> cert is used) the page is displayed but because the SSL cert does not match the page discovery fails.

so far I have tried

-recreating all the lync rules

-re-adding the Lync certificate

-tested the other lync urls (meet, dial-in etc) they all have the same issue.

from everything that I have read, an internal cert should not cause issues here other then client who don't have my root cert will not be able to get in (this is all test phase, eventually our OCS cert will be re-used for lync after names are changed for go-live) but till point I need to test with this internally issued one. Any thoughts as to why this would be occurring would be greatly appreciated

I have 2 x 202 R2 WAP domain joined proxies in the DMZ, the ADFS rules and testing works fine, no other rules are created at this time on the WAPs

Thanks in advance!

LS Centralized Logging Agent Event ID 33041

I am seeing the following error very frequently on all my Lync servers that are running the CLS agent:

LS Centralized Logging Agent Event ID 33041

Lync Server Centralized Logging Service Agent Service was unable to convert etl trace record(s) to cache record(s) due to missing message formats and lost these record(s) permanently

Cache file path: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Temp\Tracing\CLS_WPP_10-13-2014-17-21-13.cache
Missing message format(s): 1
d4626f10-6a45-af12-1218-c8e7bb881225(95)
Cause: Lync Server Centralized Logging Service Agent uses default.tmx file to convert ETL records to binary cache file records. If it can't find the message format information for a record it will be unable to determine the data types of the insert data for the record and the insert data will be lost.  This can happen if the default.tmx file is out of sync with respect to the code generating the .ETL records.
Resolution:
Verify that default.tmx file is current and update the default.tmx file if necessary. Check if there are any private bits installed causing default.tmx to be out of sync

It appears the errors started with the install of the August CU updating Lync to 5.0.8308.738.  Note, this error is with CLS, not Lync Debugging tools.  I have verified that ClsAgent.exe is using C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2013\Tracing\default.tmx, which is 23041 KB and dated 8/3/2014.

Anyone else seeing this?  Anyone have a fix?

Every time I install cumulative updates for Lync 2013, when I run the command to update the SQL database which is

Install-CsDatabase -ConfiguredDatabases -SqlServerFqdn SQLLYNPROD1.domain.local -Verbose

I get the two warnings below in the log. The update works OK and I don't have any issues. I get a warning just for this database for the database itself and the log path. Can't find anything on it searching. Any idea where to start looking

Warning: The

Certificate Requirement for Lync 2013 Standard Edition

I have successfully run the setup of lync 2013 standard edition now I am stuck due to certificates required for lync 2013. when I generate a csr. it show the subjected urls for that.

hostname.domain.com

sip.domain.com

diali.domain.com

meet.domain.com

admin.domain.com

lyncdiscover.domain.com

lyncdiscoverinternal.domain.com

im.domain.com (External URL)

so if I go for 3 party CA then I need 8 certicate only for internal lync. As I also need to connected federated partner and external user so I need Edge for again I need 3 more certificates

web.domain.com

a/v.domain.com

sip.domain.com

now when I go for these certificate it quit costly and I didn't understand why such certifcates required. can anyone help me to fix such requirement.

Or, what are the necessary url to which I buy 3 party CA rest leave as it is.

I also want to deploy Edge with single adopter as we have only one network so can anyone assist me to proceed it further.
