All,

when executing Enable-CsTopology on a Lync Server, in a customer environment, I get the following error message:

During the Enable-CsTopology execution process, this error appears when it tries to activate one of the hosts or even during "Get Forest State" depending on which Lync server this is executed. The AD serveradcontroller.some.domain is available though. Does anybody have a hint on what could be the reason for this error?

Many thanks in advance,

Skype for Business Video calls fail when using a Sonicwall NSA 250M

We have two Sonicwall NSA 250M's, one in each site connected by a site-to-site VPN.  When we attempt to make a video call with Skype for Business 2013 (O365), the call initially completes and we see the video, but within less than a second, the call fails "due to network issues".

Sonicwall support says that the Sonicwall does not support the STUN protocol and we have applied all Microsoft recommended port and IP exclusions, even going so far as to open all ports to all destinations, yet video calls still fail as long as the destination is behind the firewall.   Our problem is eerily similar to this one:  https://community.office365.com/en-us/f/166/t/145660

Are there any other people in this community that have gotten your Sonicwall to work with Skype for Business/Lync 2013 Video Calls?  Is there something else we can try to get this to work?

Lync client limiting features

hi All,

Today morning, some Lync User feedback error “A network to server issue is temporarily limiting features. Your contacts list is unavailable but you can search for contacts and make calls. Call forwarding may not be working and delegates or team-call group members may not be receiving your calls.” so I used ocslogger to capture front end server traffic and found error: user is homed on this server but is currently in read-only mode. because FE was demoted, but it hasn't gotten a notification with the address of the new primary, this is a transient condition during failover/failback"  so I check the eventlog and noticed it was happening after  all my FE server backup start to run. my lync server are hyper-v vms.  will it caused by my backup job or is there any other reason, kindly advise. thanks.

Best regards

Thomas

Missing Machine during publishing Lync Topology

Hi,

While publishing the Lync Topology, the wizard is showing following error -

The following machines from the topology you are publishing were not found in Active Directory and will result in errors during Enable-CsTopology as it tries to prepare Active Directory entries for the topology machines.  If you choose to publish this topology Enable-CsTopology will have to be re-run once the missing machines are domain-joined:

databaseFQDN.mydomain.com

The DB instance is already on domain, object available in AD, can be pinged and NS lookup is OK.

Have tried as different user, Run as Administrator but resulting in same error ..

Any suggestion?

I have a Hybrid install of Skype for Business server 2015, with a SAN certificate on my edge server. My issue is that users that exist online can send messages to users on-premises, but users on premises cannot send messages or see the presence of users that resides online. I have included my edge external FQDN "sip.mydomain.co.za" in the office 365 SFB external Federation domains. I have used the "https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com" tool to check for certification errors but all returned OK.  Any suggestions? Thanks

Lync server 2013 - Mediation server

$

Hi all,

just want to confirm something regarding Standalone mediation server VS collocated mediation server on the frontend server.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398391.aspx

-----------------------------

1st part

The Enterprise Voice workload, dial-in conferencing, and advanced Enterprise Voice applications (Response Group application, Call Park application, call admission control (CAC), and so on), are available in Front End pools. The functionality of the Mediation Server is built into the Front End Server. A separate stand-alone Mediation Server is not necessary.

2nd part

The only exception is if you configure a SIP trunk to connect to a Session Border Controller for an Internet Telephony Service Provider. To connect your Enterprise Voice infrastructure to your SIP trunk provider, a separate Mediation Server must be deployed.

----------------------------

How can first part work without SIP trunk, since it will require dial in number = sip trunk ?

If you have a main site (with Edge, frontend, mediation) and want to deploy a 2nd site, will 2nd site also require mediation, frontend and edge server? By this, the 2nd site will host its own meeting and users will have enterprise voice enabled.

Thanks!

License Clarification (Skype)

$

Can someone please clarify a license question we have? We are demo'ing Skype for Business. We have an enterprise agreement with Microsoft that covers standard cals for SfB. During our demo, we were able to use our standard client and do video conferencing, desktop sharing, etc.   Do we need the Enterprise CAL in order to do video conferencing and desktop sharing? I thought a standard cal would take care of that for us but according to this on Microsoft's site, we would need the enterprise cal? Really?

Licensing Guide

Client Licenses are required to access all Skype for Business Online and Server features.
  • Standard
CALs enable users or devices to connect to Skype for Business Server
for presence, IM, peer-to-peer VoIP and HD video, and Skype
    connectivity.
  • For Skype for Business Server, client licenses are available through the standalone client, with Office Pro Plus, or by
downloading the free Skype for Business Basic client.

Client Access License (CALs) are required to use Skype for Business Server.

  • Standard
CALs enable users or devices to connect to Skype for Business Server
for presence, IM, peer-to-peer VoIP and HD video, and Skype
    connectivity.
  • Enterprise CALs enable scheduled and impromptu meetings with audio and video calling, desktop and application sharing, and
dial-in conferencing on mobile phones, tablets, PC and Mac. The Standard CAL is a prerequisite for Enterprise CAL.
  • Plus CALs enable PSTN in/out, emergency calling, and other enterprise-grade phone features. The Standard CAL is a prerequisite
    for Plus CAL.
In addition to CALs, server licenses are required for every front-end server.

Enable Lync for Users in Another Domain

Hi team

My organization is having Lync enterprise edition. We want to enable Lync for some users , but users should not login into domain machine using that credentials, but they can login to Lync client. For this purpose we planned to create a Tree domain and enable Lync for this domain users.

Root Domain - ABC.co.in

Tree Domain - XYZ.com same forest

Following Steps been Done

1. Build a Tree Domain XYZ.com ( Opened Ports between ABC.co.in & XYZ.com . Also opened Tcp ports 389 and 3268 from this       domain to Lync servers )

2.  Added Sip Domain in Topology. ( After publishing the topology i am able to enable users for both domains )

3. In XYZ.com domain we created some new users. ( Eg: test user1 , test user2 )

Issue

When trying to enable for Lync for XYZ.com domain users , Not able to find the XYZ.com users in the Search.

Please suggest how to solve the issue.

Also suggest is there any other way to restrict Lync users to Login to domain machines,if user is in  ABC.co.in domain.

Windows 10 PRO 64-bit

Skype for Business 2015 64-bit 15.0.4763.1001, MSO (15.0.4763.1000) 64-bit

Outlook v16.0.4229.1029

Since upgrading to Outlook 2016, Skype for Business no longer integrates with Outlook 2016.

When sending an email to a Skype for Business contact, I do not see their Skype for Business status in the To field of the email.

Within Outlook 2016 calendar, there is no longer an option to create and send a Skype for Business meeting.

There is no Skype for Business add-in available within Outlook 2016.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue.

Thanks in advance for your assistance

Lost Remote Client Connectivity

Greetings-

Lync Server 2013 utilizing Edge Server. Internal connection works with no issues. Remote clients used to connect. Then I was doing some work on the RTCLocal Instance because my backups weren't working. I detached the DBs and then re-attached. Now on my Edge Server, I get event ID 18456:

Source: MSSQL$RTCLOCAL

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database 'rtc'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]

Cannot connect using either Automatic or Manual configuration. HOWEVER, my mobile device clients CAN connect with no issues using Automatic Configuration...

Thanx

Sharepoint Apps and Lync Internal Website

$

Dear All,

We have on premise SharePoint 2013 in our environment and recently we have configured and implemented Share Point Apps. Since we had created our website with host headers, we had now create a new web application on port 80 with no host header.

The web application is created successfully and the SharePoint Apps works well, but we had to stop the LYNC internal website which also runs on port 80 and 443.

Is there a way that both of the website can run together on port 80, I added a new IP address to the Network Adapter and also in the IIS Binding, change the New Web Application (with no host header) IP Address from unassigned to the one I added. They both work for some time and then fails.

Could some one help in solving this problem.

Kind Regards,

Sheldon Dsouza
