OWA Integration not working with Exchange 2013 and Lync 2013 (with UCS enabled)

$

Hi guys,

I have a system landscape that was migrated from Windows 2008 R2 (as AD) with Exchange 2010 and existing Lync 2013 Installation. Lync Integration with OWA was working fine in that configuration.

After the AD was migrated to Windows 2012 R2 and Exchange was migrated to 2013, there are some problems with OWA Integration for users hat have UCS enabled (that is my guess). All Systems are installed in german language.

For testing I created a new user in AD, Exchange and Lync and I can use Lync in OWA without any problems.
But when I log in to Lync Rich-Client with that user, after a few minutes I got logged off and on again (because there were some changes in my contact list; the UCS enablement, I guess) -> after that the Default Contact Group in Lync is named "Other contacts" (was "Andere Kontakte" before) and I cannot login for Lync with that user in OWA anymore (this is reproducible; delete user from Lync, delete contact list in Outlook, try again).

However I can still login with users that have never used Lync 2013 Rich-Client (i.e. Domain-Administrator), so it is not a General Lync-OWA-Integration problem.

I did some testing, but I am not able to find a solution.

When I enable UCMA-Tracing with OCSTracer I get the following error message:

However I also get the above error 480 also for the Domain Administrator user (which has never started Lync 2013 and should not have UCS enabled?).

Any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance!

SBA in central site

Hi,

I am currently troubleshooting a Lync 2013 deployment at a customer of ours:

Customer has two offices. The offices have been deployed as two central sites with single Lync 2013 Standard Edition FE and single Edge Servers with a single SIP domain. Each central site has a branch site in Topology Builder with an SBA. The FE servers are pool-paired with each other by defining them as backup registrars for each other.

In this setup the SBA's are not used as backup registrars so when the FE pool goes down in either site they will fail over to the other physical location which is not desirable as another registrar is available at the user's site. If I am correct you cannot assign a primary and secondary backup registrar. I'm not sure why the SBA's have been put there except for the PSTN connectivity and the customer has no clue either. He is convinced that if the site's pool goes down, the SBA will be leveraged and that failover to the other site will only occur in the worst case scenario.

Another problem I have observed is that the Edge servers both are configured with sip.domain, webconf.domain and av.domain names which means that we have a problem in public DNS with the duplicate names (seen the fact we have only 1 SIP domain) for the A-records and SRV records.

What I would like to propose here is an Enterprise Edition pool with 2 servers in both sites (FE and Edge) serving as backup registrars for each other. Configure GeoDNS for the Edge server affinity for users at both locations. Leave out the SBA (and remove the branch site) as registrar and only use it for PSTN connectivity using the appropriate call routing through site policies in Lync. Goal is to make the environment as high available as possible for all Lync functionalities.

Any comment or insight on this will be highly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Stessels Vincent

Configuring Lync Home Lab

Hello Warriors,

I am planning to build a home lab for Lync (along with Exchange and EV) for my studies.  I am confused with the available computer hardware.

Is it an absolute necessary to go with the Xeons/Opterons or is it fine to go with Core i5/i7s or AMD A/FX series?  Basically, my question is whether a server grade processor is required or is it possible to achieve my goal using a consumer processor? Also, is a dual processor (quad core + quad core) required or will it work just fine with even a single quad core processor?

Which motherboard should I use?  I am planning to gear up with 32GB RAM.

This will be a simple home lab for studies with 10 users and one public IP.  Virtual machines will be built using Hyper-V (Server 2008 R2).  All Lync Server roles and Exchange roles with be built as virtual machines.  Also, kindly provide your suggestions for AMD processors as well.

Thanks a lot for helping me with my studies and future.

Lync 2013 - Agent not receiving toast for incoming Response Group call

$

Hi Guys,

Very strange issue here, we have a workflow called overflow (sip:overflow@domain.org) which is configured for 24/7 just for initial testing purposes. This workflow will then ring the 'overflow' queue which will then call agents in the 'overflow' group. There are no timeout settings configured so this will ring the group until the call is answered.

We have a test account in that group however when we make an external call to that RG number we hear the RG tone and ringing but no toast on client or handset.

I have other workflows in this Lyn 2013 Multi-tenant Environment working apart from this one. We have tried multiple RG service restarts and removing and re-creating workflows/queue/groups. Have also tried creating other test accounts but no change. Anyone out there with an idea on what may be causing this ?

Bernard

Skype for Business 2016 integration with Outlook 2013

Skype for Business (client) got updated to 2016 and Outlook is on 2013 . Everytime when Skype opens, there is an error dialog box is a window of Skype for Business, and the message says "Microsoft Office has run into an error preventing it from working correctly. Microsoft office will need to be closed as a result.  Would you like to repair now ?

Nothing happens when you press Repair Now or Close - the error sometimes appears several times in a couple minutes, and sometimes does not appear for hours.

Also the Skype/Outlook integration, doesn't work and in outlook all the skype integration features aren't appearing.

Thanks & Best Regards,

Hi there,

I have a member that is added in different Groups. I found a script to list all groups where that person is member of:

"Get-csrgsagentgroup | Where-Object {$_.AgentsByUri -like "sip:name@domain.com"} | Select name".

In my case is that specific person added to 21 different groups (Response Groups - Groups) and I want to delete that specific user from all the groups. Can somebody help me please (with a script) to delete only the user from all the groups please?

Do I need an SBA for a remote office and does it give me call quality?

Hi,

I have a central site in the UK and I am now opening a branch site in India (Hyderabad) to act as a call centre to our customers in the UK.

My question is with over 150ms could the users just connect back to the Central site in the UK over a site to site Link (Call cost saving) or does adding a front end pool in Hyderabad as well as my front end pool in the UK resolve any latency issues?

Does having a front end pool in both locations solve any latency issues or would I need an SBA connecting to a SIP in India to get the call quality?

Any help would be much appreciated.

kindest regards,

Paul.

Lync 2013 - SQL Collocation - Setting up a Witness server

Hello,

In a Lync 2013 infrastructure we have a couple of SQL servers setup in a SQL mirroring configuration (Lync back-end) and a third SQL server which is used as Archiving and Monitoring server.

Question:

  1. Can the third server (archiving & monitoring) also be used as a Witness server for the back-end SQL servers ?
  2. Is it technically possible to do so ?
  3. Any recommendation ?

Thanks for your help,

Luca

Certificate Renewal and Issues

$

My Certificate renewal is coming up and I just want to verify one I am doing things right and two I found an issue I need to get corrected with the certificates.

1. I opened the Deployment Wizard and went to "Install or Update Lync Server System" Then I clicked on "Run Again" under "Request, Install, or Assign Certificates". I walk through the process of the request and add the following domains to the request:

access.domain.com
www.access.domain.com
meet.domain.com
ucupdates-r2.domain.com
domain.com
lswebext01.domain.com
sip.domain.com
webconf.domain.com
lswebext02.domain.com
lyncdiscover.domain.com
dialin.domain.com

The problem is when I get done and decode the request to make sure it looks like the initial one we did during install last year the common name last year was access.domain.com and this year it is lswebext01.domain.com does that make a difference? Do I check make exportable?

2. We have two "Lync in a Box" devices. I was told during the install that the second one was not really functioning as any kind of fail over or load balancer. I found out different from another company which I have been trying to get approval for paid support from. While going over the Certificate Renewal process and documenting it. I found that the second box has the internal self signed certificate installed on the "Web Service External" I also noticed the LyncFileShare is not the same. What is the process for getting the external certificate fixed once I renew it? Could this be causing some of my issues?

Lync 2013 Hybrid upgrade.

I am looking to upgrade my Lync 2013 implementation to Skype for business. I am currently in a Hybrid setup/shared Sip. Is there anything I need to be aware of when upgrading inplace. (Downtime can be arranged)

I have a frontend pool with Mediation collocated and an edge.

Will this break the Hybrid?

DSCPInbound element is not receiving in the output data of Skype for Business SDN Interface 2.2 Schema.

Hi,

I have configured the Skype for Business 2015 server in my test level environment. I also configured Skype for Business SDN 2.2 with this setup.(LDL on front-end server and LSM on dedicated windows 2012 server).

Then followed by all the necessary configuration I have done in the SDN part, Now I am receiving all the quality related data at the network manager side. I can see the call status / quality / Device info in the output data part.

However, My objective is to configure the Skype for Business setup to bind the DSCP value with the data packets. I followed the below link to configure DSCP settings in active directory.

http://skype4b.uk/2015/09/07/skype-for-business-configuring-quality-of-service-qos/

But still no luck on DSCP! I am not receiving any output data on the network manager side regarding the DSCPInbound / DSCPOutbound Elements.

Is there any specific configuration or tools that can help analysing the packets for DSCP value? or How could I verify the DSCP configuration is applied to my machine?

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could kindly give me some suggestions on this.

Thanks,

Vinoth

Lync Server 2013 Edge Server Routing?

$

I have two Lync 2013 Edge servers that I am trying to setup.   They are currently living in a DMZ and my networking team would rather route traffic to the PUBLIC interfaces, is this possible?

My current configuration for the EDGE servers is they have two NIC.   One Internal and one Public.   The Public NIC has three IP addresses on it, Access, Web Conference, and A/V.

My question is, what IP address do I route my traffic to?   As is, it is just going to the one Internal IP, to route it to my PUBLIC NIC, what IP do I chose?   Access, Web Conference, or A/V?

Testing with HOSTS files now.

We have pushed the DisableServerCheck registry entry to thousands of workstations, any thoughts on removing it after migrating users to a Lync 2013 server environment where the entry is no longer required.    Is it worth it to remove it?
