Decom single Lync 2013 Std front end server, leave Lync 2013 EE front end pool intact

$

Lync newbie thrusted into decommissioning project. I looked through older, decom threads but did not see one that matches my situation. If there is one, I apologize, and point me in the right direction. Moving along...

As the title suggests, we have both a single Lync 2013 Standard FE server, along with an Enterprise pool consisting of 3 front end servers, an edge, reverse proxy and mirrored SQL DBs at this same site.  Each setup has an Office Web Apps server as well; the OWA server related to the single front end server can also be decommissioned.  There is also another 2013 EE pool at our DR site which is geographically located at a different datacenter; that pool is for failover, and will also remain untouched.

So you're asking, "what is the question or issue?"  Quite simply, I don't know the steps to decommission the single standard front end server and corresponding elements (OWA server, DB(s), file store, etc.) without destroying the other pools which as I've stated earlier need to remain intact and in production.

I found one or two very simplistic pages on how to decommission a standard Lync 2010 front end server when in co-existence with Lync 2013, but this is all Lync 2013 and those pages don't address my situation with multiple pools in use.  If you have any questions, please ask and I'll do my best to answer them.  Thanks in advance for any information and support you can provide.

Migrate Lync Edge 2010 - Lync Edge 2013

Hi All,

I'm planning to have a co-existence before for Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 together with its Edge server. But our client came to the requirement that we will just use Lync Edge 2013 and forget about the Lync edge 2010. I have some clarification about this :

1. Do I need to transfer the CMS to Lync fronted 2013? Because it's currently on the Lync frontend 2010? Any downtime needed or any impact if we do this while there's some users connected/using Lync?

2. On Lync Edge 2010 the setup is we're using Fortinet that has Public IP pointed to IP of Lync 2010 Frontend and Lync 2010 Edge. Will I just repoint the Public IP to the internal IP of Lync 2013 Frontend and Edge Server? As far as I remember it is pointed to Port 5061, 444 and 443 to the Lync 2010 Fronted and the sip is pointed to Edge 2010 Server IP address.

3. Does Lync 2010 users outside the network will still can connect to Lync server?

4. Does Lync 2013 users outside the network will can connect to Lync Server?

5. How does the Lync mobile 2013 will work? Will I do any configuration for it to work?

I'm a newbie here so please guide me.

Thank you, Ken.

RGS - Activate Queue time-out & Queue overflow from powershell

Hi,

I need to modify a queue depending of the time of the day. During part of the day, the queue needs to timeout to voicemail. During other part of the day, I need it to overflow and forward the call to a phone number. Both options are not at the same time.

I can easily change the settings of each options by powershell (time-out period, maximum number of calls, forward the call to, etc.).

$x = New-CsRgsCallAction -Action TransferToPstn -Uri "sip:+14255551234@contoso.com"
New-CsRgsQueue service:ApplicationServer:server.contoso.local -Name "TestQueue" -OverflowAction $x -OverflowThreshold 0

$x = New-CsRgsCallAction -Action TransferToVoicemailUri -Uri "sip:voicemail@contoso.com"
New-CsRgsQueue service:ApplicationServer:server.contoso.local -Name "TestQueue" -OverflowAction $x -TimeoutThreshold 20

But I haven't been able to uncheck or check by powershell the options "Enable queue time-out" & "Enable queue overflow"

I want to be able to activate option "Queue time-out" and push the setting for the time-out in powershell while deactivating the queue overflow as well in powershell.

I've not been able to do it. There's not much on Technet on this subject.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Does 'Lync Server 2013 Stress and Performance Tool' work with Skype for Business?

I need to run load on newly installed Skype for Business environment. But I could not find any load tool for Skype for Business.

Below are my queries:

a. Is there any 'Stress and Performance Tool' available from Microsoft to test Skype for Business? If yes could you please share it?

b. Does 'Lync Server 2013 Stress and Performance Tool' work with Skype for Business? I myself tried it. Using the userProfileGenerator, I could create users in DC (though enabling users had to be done manually, as the tool failed to do it. I could run load using the tool, but not sure if the load is proper.

Lync 2013 with Office 365 hosted UM issue - "Call failed to establish due to a media connectivity failure when both endpoints are internal"

Hi

Were having an issue in our multi-site deployment of Lync 2013 since migrating to Office 365 hosted voicemail (UM).

High level setup - We have three main sites (NA, Asia and Europe). Within the Lync topology all sites federation routes are configured through NA site.

When calling from an external cellphone/mobile to a hosted voicemail enabled user to NA and Europe sites it works absolutely fine but when calling to any user in our Asia site from a cell/mobile it drops when it tries to go to hosted voicemail. I ran snooper logs and can see the following error:

ms-diagnostics: 22;source="LYNCSBA11.xxx.local";reason="Call failed to establish due to a media connectivity failure when both endpoints are internal";component="MediationServer";Exception="Proxy side ICE connectivity check failed.";ICEWarningFlags="ICEWarn=0x40003a0,LocalSite=10.10.1.7:55738,LocalMR=XXX.143.229.250:53904,RemoteSite=10.8.148.8:3643,RemoteMR=65.55.127.81:54673,PortRange=49152:57500,LocalMRTCPPort=53310,RemoteMRTCPPort=54673,LocalLocation=2,RemoteLocation=2,FederationType=0,Interfaces=2,BaseInterface=2,BaseAddress=10.10.1.7:51182"

ms-diagnostics-public: 22;reason="Call failed to establish due to a media connectivity failure when both endpoints are internal";component="MediationServer";Exception="Proxy side ICE connectivity check failed."

I have checked the persistent routes on all edge servers and they are all set to route to internal client networks.

The question is also does anyone know how hosted voicemail routes in a multiple site environment. I would have thought since theyre all set to federate through one site (NA) it would route internally to the NA site but I can see from the firewall logs that when hosted voicemail is requested in the Asia site it tries to go out of the Asia edge servers?

Is this a NAT issue, routing or Lync issue? I cant seem to pinpoint and resolve and its driving me mad

Any help would be much apprecaited

Thanks

Lync server 2013 and IPV6?

$

Hi,
During deployment I have unchecked IPV6 support option in topology builder for all POOLs.
But I left IPV6 support option enabled on all Lync servers under NIC teaming option and under registry settings as well.
Now my network guy says that "company's network infrastructure doesn't support IPV6 at all & same has been disabled for all regions globally"

So I would like to know

1)Is there any necessity to disable/remove IPV6 support on all Lync servers?
2)Are we going to face any challenges by keeping IPV6 settings as it is?
3)What are best practices to follow when network infratsructure doesnt support IPV6?

Hello Champs,

From last couple of days we are seeing  error events for Backup service & Replication services, File Transfer Agent Service.

Looks like issue is fixing automatically (Observed from Information events). I have checked Network, Fila share access, Permissions, Write permissions, Space but didn't find issues. Can some one help on this Please?

Events are as below.

1. Microsoft Lync Server 2013, Backup Service data content backup module failed to complete export operation.
Cause: Either network or permission issues. Please look through the exception details for more information.

2.

File transfer failed for some replica machines. Microsoft Lync Server 2013, Master Replicator Agent will continuously attempt to replicate with these machines.

While this condition persists, configuration changes will not be delivered to these replica machines.

Cause: Possible issues with writing files to the file shares listed above.
Resolution:
Check the accessibility of the file shares listed above.

Lync 2013 on-premise with hosted Office 365 UM - multiple sites query

Hi

Does anyone know how hosted voicemail is routed in a multi site scenario

We have three main sites in our Lync topology. They are all set with federation route assignments to one primary site.

When an external pstn call comes into one of the other sites (not primary) does it route voicemail request to exap.um.outlook out of the edge server of the particular site or does it go internally via the primary edge server that was set in topology builder?

Thanks

Lync 2013 Server Missing Certificates

$

We recently ran into an issue where the Lync certificates went missing. Now the certificate wasn't set to expire until until mid-May so we had enough time to request renewals. However all services were running all the servers in the pools with the exception of 3 party trusted apps. In order to resolve this issue we had to re-apply the certificates, however, the services on all the servers in the pool stopped causing the servers to go out of quorum. Once everything came back on line users were able to continue on with Lync. The next day the same issue occurred again. The Lync certificates were removed. Since the certs were going to expire in May we decided to renew the certificates and apply the new ones. On the third day everything was fine, no certs missing.

Can anyone think of why we would have lost our certs even though they weren't going to expire until a month out or have had a similar issue?

Office 365 and federation to Lync with "Allowed Partner Server" mode

Hi,

Is it possible to made Lync 2013 federation with Office 365 with mode: Allowed Partner Server (old "Direct Federation")?

For our partner we have "ProxyFqdn: sipfed.online.lync.com". Also our partner has enabled our domain on the Office 365. But when testing the connection we can see the following error on our edge server:
"ms-diagnostics: 1008;reason="Unable to resolve DNS SRV record";domain="OurCompany.com";dns-srv-result="NegativeResult";dns-source="WireQuery";source="sipfed1E.online.lync.com""

On the Lync we do have three ways for setting up the federation, but is it so that "Allowed Partner Server" is not available option on the Office 365? We do not have the SRV record:Nslookup -q=srv _sipfederationtls._tcp.OurCompany.com as the error message seems to looking for. But so far with non O365 partners that has not been a problem as they can set the proxy server.

Lync 2013 Central Management service won't start after adding persistent chat

$

I've recently added the persistent chat service to my topology. Currently I have a single Lync 2013 server on 2012R2. Since the addition of the persistent chat service, the central management and registrar services are stopped in PS and in Lync control panel and will not start. Also the server takes longer to boot (HyperV VM). When trying to start the MASTER orRTCXMPPTGW service the result is "Start-CsWindowsService : Service {ServiceName} failed to start within the expected timeframe." The drilled down details state "Error: Access is denied"

There have been no other issues with this server until the addition of the persistent chat. I've removed it and deployed the topology several times and updated the lync install. Also I ran the LyncServerUpdateInstaller and the server is current as of 3/21/16.

Skype for Business - Centralized Logging Service Agent Error starting background thread to process traces

Centralized Logging Service Agent fails to start with error in the title. This happened after I mistakenly tried to log the IISLog scenario.  Restarting the server, Remove-CsClsConfiguration -Identity Global and restarting the service always ended up with the same error.  This is a Skype for Business 2015 Standard edition deployment with the November 17th cumulative update installed.

Any idea how I get out of this?

Additional details:

Log Type - IISLogManager, Error - Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Cause: Internal error

Resolution:

Hi,

I want to bulk upload users to Lync Server 2013 using PowerShell and CSV.

So I need the powershell script and CSV format.

When we add users manually we add them using SAMAccountAnme format.

I can't seem to find the answer anywhere online.

Prestage Lync 2013 Address book on share (Not DFS)

$

We are currently about to do a Office 2013 upgrade. We have about 60,000 users. We are currently using Lync 2013 EE and want to avoid a a huge download of the address book from the Lync share.

1) Our current AB for Lync is 9MB compressed

2) We are looking to prestage the address book on a local share to sites and then have the share deliver the AB to the users once they log on or before they log on (which ever is easier)

3) Is this possible?

4) Is it supported?

5) Will the address book uncompress if prestaged?

6) Do we need to suppress the AB download?

7) Any information will be great.

Thanks.

Lync 2013 - User presence issue

Hi All,

I have a question from some confusion, there's a Lync user named "Juan David", when user1 search him, it shows his presence as online, but when user2 search him, his status is presence unknown, and as per checking I saw that on User2, the IM address of Juan David is juan.david@domain.com but in User1 his IM Address isjdavid@domain.com and I ask Juan David if what username is he using when logging in to Lync 2013, and said it wasjdavid@domain.com he was using when logging in.

Juan David's email address is juan.david@domain.com and IM login isjdavid@domain.com and checking on his mailbox, smtp of Juan David isjuan.david@domain.com and jdavid@domain.com does the different SMTP/Login address affecting his Presence in Lync? Or the problem is on User2 since User2 is the only one seeing Juan David as presence unknown?

Please guide me. Thank you!
