Event ID 56417- Failed to insert QoE to back-end

Hi,

I just saw that my Skype for Business server is not able to insert any data into QoE database.

I see the following in event log: (This log appeared right after upgrading to Skype4B)

Failed to insert QoE to back-end due to unexpected error.

Component: QoE Adaptor
Error: System.IO.InvalidDataException: Invalid input. MediaLine is null.
at Microsoft.Rtc.Server.UdcAdapters.QoE.PackReport.Pack(VQReportEventType report, LyncMessageDetails msgDetails, DBQoEReport dbReport)
   at Microsoft.Rtc.Server.UdcAdapters.QoE.QoEProcessor.ProcessQoEReport(ContentChunk content, LyncMessageDetails msgDetails)
   at Microsoft.Rtc.Server.UdcAdapters.QoE.QoEProcessor.ChooseMessageProcessor(LyncMessageDetails msgDetails)
   at Microsoft.Rtc.Server.UdcAdapters.QoE.QoEProcessor.ProcessQueueItems(LyssQueueItem queueItem)
Cause: an unexpected condition has resulted in the error.
Resolution:
Verify the back-end is up and this Skype for Business Server has connectivity to it. If the problem persists, notify your organization's support team with the relevant details.

Any idea what would be causing this?

Also, does anyone know which service is responsible for insertion of data into QoE databases? perhaps a restart of that service might work.

Update: The error has been appearing in Lync event logs for 6 days, only today the server actually failed to update the database.

After a reboot of the front end, it is able to insert the records again, but I still see the errors popping up. I guess it will be a matter of time before it actually fails to insert the records.

Error encountered pushing data to RtcXds Blob Store

Issue: unable to meet now, join/schedule conferences, or have conversations beyond peer to peer.

Events: nothing is shown via OCS Logger with specific error messages or messages in general. Trace doesn't show anything specific. When I click "Meet Now", I can see network traffic coming into the Skype For Business FE, however client shows "A server error occurred. Please contact your support team".

Event log: I see this in the event log, looks like this would cause the problem, nothing else is in error state - any ideas on the cause? I've checked SQL log space and there is log space free on all databases.

Participant Use of Conference ID or "Join Meeting" Link Specific to Meeting Organizer

I host many meetings away a computer and use my cell phone to initiate a conference call via Lync.  All the participants are signing in via phone or clicking on the link in an Outlook calendar invite I have already sent them.  Since my conference ID and the link to "Join Meeting" are specific to me, is there any way to get a number of how many people signed into the conference I initiated (I am signing in as the leader, using my PIN, etc...)?  Is there a way to get a list of names or numbers of those that signed in?  Is there any tracking mechanism around "my" individual conference ID number and/or "link to join meeting" that I send to participants?

THANKS!!

CMS & Pool Failover Testing (Mirrored Database)

I recently finished setting up a Enterprise Pool and wanted to test failover to Secondary Pool. I was able to failover successfully but still have CMS on backup pool. I have 2 questions

1. When failing over the CMS I have seen two options for the "-SQLInstance " RTC & LYNC ? When Running -Whatif I See the instance listed as RTC so I assume that is what I should be failing to. Should you be creating a new instance here?

2. On the main pool I am running mirrored databases. When I failed over to backup pool (1 SQL Server) the mirror was obviously disabled. When failing CMS back to main pool do I need to tell it to failback to both SQL servers to reinstate the mirror of just failback to the Primary SQL and let the mirror sync back up? I am afraid when I broke the mirror it may be in an unrecoverable state. Right now the mirror is showing out of sync on Primary Pool side.

Lync server 2013 multiple sites edge DNS configuration

$

Hi,

I'm in the process of adding a second central site to my existing Lync 2013 infrastructure for pairing / DR purposes.

The existing FE pool (LFEPool.contoso.com) has an associated Edge pool (LEDGEPool.contoso.com) consisting of 2 Edge Servers, with private IP addresses using NAT for the public IP address (ex: 1.1.1.1). The published DNS record for this edge pool is sip.domain.com, which resolves to the 1.1.1.1 IP address.

I intend of deploying an Edge server in the secondary/backup site also (backupEdge.contoso.com), and configure it in the same manner - private IP address internally and NAT for the public address (ex: 2.3.4.5).

What I'm still uncertain of is the way the public DNS records should be configured for the second edge server. Could I just use the same DNS record sip.domain.com and point it to resolve to the public IP address of the secondary edge server 2.3.4.5?

Or would it be better to deploy the secondary Edge server with a different public DNS record - sip2.domain.com - 2.3.4.5?

I'm asking because it's the first deployment of this type and I'm not sure I completely understood the implications for the external clients connecting to a topology of this type.

Regards,

Alex.

Federated screen share random fail

Hello everyone,

I recently started at this company that has a odd issue.  I will get to that but here is the topology

All users are in pool2 Enterprise pool consisting of 3 servers

There is a pool 3 which is DR no users on it.

There is a edge pool 2 that has federation enabled

there is a Edge pool 3 at DR which also has federation enabled

there is also a 2010 Pool with no users and a 2010 edge which also has federation enabled......

Federation route is to pool 2 edge

all users have edge 2 as their Dedicated edge

Edge 2 next hop is Pool 2...

OK now for the fun part.  We have open federation and Presence IM and Voice seem to have no issues.

HOWEVER Screen Sharing seems to be random Somtime I can share out and sometime Federations can share in, then with no reason I can not share out or they can not share in or neither of us can share.  I see in my reporting server 25; reason="A federated call failed to establish due to a media connectivity
failure where both endpoints are internal"; UserType="Callee";
MediaType="application-sharing";

I am having the FW team double and triple check the ports are all open as they should be but does anyone think it COULD be the fact that all 3 Edge pools DR / Primary and old 2010 all have federation enabled?

_sipfederationtls._tcp.company.com  only has the one record for edge pool 2

I have a feeling that inbound is always useing edge 2 but due to the federation being enabled on all edge pools that outbound COULD be going out any of them thus breaking 443 for screen share?

thoughts?

I'm setting up a custom admin role for our helpdesk.  I have everything configured the way I want except that the "Assign users to a pool" drop down is empty when they enable a user for Lync.  Which cmdlet do I need to allow them access to in order to populate that box?  Thx

I check the Technet didn't mention which time stamp to enable-csuser for lync online user, we have customer want to enable  Lync hybrid and move Lync online to on-premise.

Can I run the step a weeks before?

Enable-CsUser -Identity "dispaly name" -SipAddress "sip:username@domain.com" -HostingProviderProxyFqdn "sipfed.online.lync.com"

Does it have impact lync online user can't sign in after apply enable-csuser ? I check ADSI will add msSIPRTP information to the user. I'm find them to enable a test account to test enable-csuser before run on production user account.

Thanks.

Lync Egde Server Certificates Configurations

Hi Guys,

We are currently going through our Skype for Business deployment.

And now we are on configuring the certificates for the Edge Server which we have done with no problem.

However, we need now to export the cert to be imported into the TMG for setting up Web listerners.

This is where the problem starts, when we export the  external Cert from the Edge Server (running server

2012) it does not give the option to export it as a pfx hence the TMG configuration cannot be competed.

NB When importing cert through Lync Deployment Wizard i ticked the box for exportable and even assigned a key.

Skype For Business Crashing after 4/6 updates

Hello,

Our company uses Skype for Business and since the 4/6 windows updates a fair amount of users have had Skype crash and it restarts on its own.  Appears to happen at random.  Another good amount of updates came in on 4/13, I was hoping for a fix in those updates but there was not.  I have ran a repair but the issue continues.  Has anyone had this issue or know the KB that could be the culprit?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Lync Server 2013 December 2014 or later CU and possible impact to Lync 2013 client

$

We are running Lync Server 2013, but it hasn't been updated in a while. I believe my current CU is September 2014, give or take a month. I know the December 2014 update includes the references to Skype. Several months ago, our Desktop team updated Office 2013 which caused Lync to become Skype.  We deployed the registry key settings to mask Skype and make it appear as Lync again.

I am now planning to install the most recent Lync Server 2013 CU.  I'd like to verify my overly sensitive users won't notice a change in the client.  It is my understanding with this registry setting in place, the Lync 2013 client should not see a visible change when I apply the latest server CU.  I do also plan to set the EnableSkypeUI attribute to $False on my client policy for good measure.

Thoughts?  Other experiences or considerations I should think about?

Hi guys,

Anyone can help with some Lync Server SQL queries?

For example the query to see all calls made by a user, or query to see all incoming calls for a response group?

Thanks in advance,

Skype for Business: Outlook profile is not configured correctly

$

Hi guys,

We have recently migrated to Exchange Online and our Lync is still hosted on prem. After migration I noticed I cannot open conversation history link from Skype for Business in Outlook anymore. I always get "Your Outlook profile is not configured correctly. Contact your support team with this information" error.

I have checked logs (below) - Skype for Business client is connecting to EWS fine, however MAPI is unavailable. Also all conversations are saving properly into my Conversation History folder. The only thing that is not working is the "View More in Outlook" link at the bottom of the client. I tried to delete conversation history folder in OWA, folder was re-created but this did not resolve the issue. Same with Sip and Tracing folder in AppData. Do we need to set up Lync server for Exchange online? Are we missing something?

What I also noticed is yellow exclamation mark icon on our Polycom phones after migration. Phone cannot connect to Exchange Calendar and Voicemail (Voicemail was never set up before but icon was never there either). As we are using domain.local AD UPN I changed mine account to username@domain.com and Polycom starts working (excpet voicemail). However we don't want all users to be on "domain.com" UPN. Is there a workaround to have users on domain.local UPN and Polycom connecting to EWS? Any guides how to set up UM on Exchange online for Lync on prem so voicemail starts working?

Thanks,

New Server Deployment - Certificate problems - Front End Service fails

$

I created a new Lync2013 (enterprise) topology with the following basic configuration.

Server: skype01.mycompany.local

Pool: poo1.mycompany.com

External: skypeext.mycompany.com

Internal" skypeint.mycompany.com

I have an internal CA that provided the internal cert for skype01.mycompany.local, however it appears that the server pool appears to share the same cert as the local server server cert. Going through the wizard to assign the certificate, if I assign the internal CA cert for pool1.mycompany.com the front end service fails to load. If I use the external star cert I have for *.mycompany.com, then the friendly name for skype01.mycompany.local does not exist.

Do I need to reinstall the pool with pool1.mycompany.com instead of pool1.mycomany.local? Perhaps I just need to reissue the internal cert with a SAN friendly name of pool1.mycompany.com?

Thoughts?

Lync lab for Enterprise Voice.

I've my Lync lab deployed and everything is setup on single homed Hyper V Lab without any external access, and tested the most of the configuration i.e. IM/Presence/Persistent Chat. Only thing left is voice. I want to test and do the lab for voice/call, i.e. voice routing, voice policies, Lync Voice call. To do the lab for Enterprise Voice, do I need public line like PSTN lines, and need to have some VOIP gateway devices/VM appliances.

Thanks

Skype for Business Call Quality Dashboard - blank pages

$

Hi,

I've managed to install the CQD, corrected the Connection Provider for SSAS to SQL (it was using native client 11 not 10 for 2008 R2) to make sure the QoEArchiveUpdate job is running successfully, and corrected the IIS authentication per the deployment instructions. However I'm still getting blank pages in the web interface.

If I browse to http://localhost/CQD it prompts for Windows credentials and shows me the Skype CQD blue banner across the top with the Settings and Help icons in the top right, but nothing underneath. If I try going to System Health or User Dashboard List I just get "We couldn't retrieve data from the server. Try refreshing the page."

I've tried browsing from both IE (with compatibility view & trusted sites) and Chrome. Checked the IIS logs and not seeing any errors in there, nor in SQL. IIS authorisation is set to allow all users. Any more ideas?

SQL, SSAS and IIS all on one VM running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 with SP1, fully patched.

Using SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 with SP3.

EDIT - also changed authenticatedUserOverride for file access per the deployment instructions.

Thanks,

Jon
