Lync QOE Details

$

Is there a reference that explains how QOE data is measured, bundled and delivered for use in Call Quality Reports?

We have an issue where some calls show EXTREMELY high Round Trip Time (some averaging in the 5,000ms range, or 5 seconds).  When we talk to the people on the call they indicate that the call was fine, the only issue was the Lync client reporting poor call quality despite both parties agreeing that the call was good.

We are QOSing audio traffic (via static port ranges) and are not seeing any issue with actual bandwith for audio.  We are hoping to learn how Lync calculates and transports this data in hopes that it will help us understand why the reports are (sometimes) misrepresenting call quality.  These report anomalies make it very tough for our team to spot actual issues.

I am hoping to find an answer without calling PSS, it seems every time we call for complex issues such as these we blow through many very expensive and limited (to us) support hours for mediocre at best service.

Lync 2013 server - Install-CsDatabase System.IO.IOException

Hi everybody,

I'm facing a issue with my installation of my lync server 2013 when i try to publish a topology.

Server : One DC on Windows 2012 Server & one lync server 2013 installed on Windows 2012 server

The issue is, when i try to publish a topology i had this error message :

Creating database xds from scratch. Data File Path = C:\CsData\CentralMgmtStore\rtc\DbPath, Log File Path= C:\CsData\CentralMgmtStore\rtc\LogPath.
Exception Stack:
Type: System.IO.IOException, Message: The user name or password is incorrect.

I don't know why and which user account the wizard is trying to use (it's the user session account normally ..), i already had checked if my users account is member of CsAdministrator, RTCHSUniversalServices, RTCUniversalServerAdmins etc. but impossible to publish the topology ...

I really don't understand, if someone had an idea, i appreciate a lot :)

Thank you,

Lync 2010 -> 2013 Migration, unable to remove 2010 pool due to users or contacts still homed on it

$

Hopefully someone else has come across this before...

I am in the last step of migrating from a 2010 enterprise pool to 2013. All users have been migrated, all response groups have been migrated (or copied to 2013 as the Move-CsRgsConfiguration cmdlet does), the configuration management database has been moved... I am on the last step where I remove the 2010 pool from the topology and publish it ... and that's where it fails.

When I hit publish, it fails with this in the log file:

Error: An error occurred: "System.InvalidOperationException" "Cannot publish topology changes. Users or contacts are still homed on a pool that would be deleted. Move or remove the users or contacts before continuing."

Now, I have searched for all possible users / contacts, and have come up with only the AudioTestServiceApplication and the response groups that were originally on the 2010 pool. I can't find any way of removing the AudioTestServiceApplication (there's no remove-CsAudioTestServiceApplication cmdlet), however I think the problem lies with the response groups. When I list users on the 2010 pool in Lync Control Panel, all that comes up is the response groups.

When you migrate the response groups with the Move-CsRgsConfiguration cmdlet, it recreates all of the workflows on the 2013 pool, and leaves the old ones on the 2010 pool. It also explicitly says NOT to remove the 2010 instances of them as this will remove the working 2013 instances. It also says that the 2010 instances will be removed when decommissioning the 2010 pool (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204854.aspx for the instructions I have followed).

So, what do I do? Do I nuke the 2010 response groups and hope the 2013 instances remain, move the response group 'users' in the control panel to the 2013 pool, remove them all and recreate on the 2013 pool, or am I looking at the wrong thing? is it something else still hanging on to the 2010 pool?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I am not sure how to do thi correctly. I have Lync 2013 coexistence environment with Lync 2010.

I have Lync 2013 enteprice with HLB, i.e two FE servers two Edge servers , one persistence chat server and one bacend server. All db are on sam SQL server and on default instance. It is the Install-Database etry whic is confusing me.

I am not sure which option to use.

I think I should use this

Install-CsDatabase -ConfiguredDatabases -SqlServerFqdn sql.local -Verbose

and the this

Install-CsDatabase -DatabaseType PersistentChat -SqlServerFqdn sql.local -SqlInstanceName default -Verbose

and finish with

Enable-CsTopology

Is this correct?

thanks.

Internal Lync Edge Server Certificate Question

On my Lync 2010 edge server there appears to be a certificate that was issued internally that is about to expire. Is this certificate required if we only use the Lync Edge server for external IM and presence?

If this certificate is indeed required how can I renew this internal certificate with our internal CA while it sits on the DMZ? Is there a manual process for doing this?

Thank you.

Lync 2013 for Blackberry ??

Can/does Lync 2013 work with Blackberries?  Specifically the Z10.  It is an active sync device, so wasn't sure if this makes things easier.  I have not seen a MS client specifically for this mobile device.

What about older Blackberries like the Bold 9800, etc.

Lync 2013 Voice call over Internet - query

We would like to setup a LYNC 2013 enviroment.

We have many offices across multiple countries. The branch offices just have Internet connection.

There is NO MPLS network between offices.

The requirement is to make voice call between users in different office across countries.

We would have to host LYNC infrastructure only at one Central site.

There is NO requirement for any PSTN or PBX integration.

The users should have access to federation like Facebook, Gtalk etc.

Pls suggest how can I architect such a Lync solution. Whats are the hardware/software components required essentially?

Kindly advice

Enterprise Voice and Lync Meeting Outlook Add-In, Dial in Numbers

$

I ran across something that I was unaware of and wanted to double check here.

Background:  I am running a two pool Lync 2013 Enterprise Deployment with an OCS pool being phased out.  All users are migrated to Lync backend using the OCS client but our conferencing numbers still exist on the OCS deployment.

As man know, when you upgrade to the Lync client, it removes the Outlook add-in for conferencing and places a single button for scheduling conference calls and meetings.  Ideally, depending on the pool the user is on, the information that is populated in the meeting request comes from the pool they are assigned to.

I have found that without enabling Enterprise Voice and setting the voice policy to Automatic, Outlook will still use the OCS numbers in the meeting request.  Once I enable EV for a user and set the VP to Auto, they receive the correct numbers based on pool registrar.

I am still currently searching but what I would like is confirmation that I do need to enable Enterprise Voice with Voice Policy set to automatic to have Outlook obtain the correct numbers for the pool any user is registered to.

Hello all,

I have recently purchased licensing for the full Lync client for my userbase. I have already deployed the Lync basic client. Has anyone done the full deployment after the basic? Will the full client remove/update the basic or will I have 2 versions installed? If so, how can I remove the basic client from the command line as part of the full client installation?

Thanks!

Hi,

I need help, I think the problem accrued when I installed updates. From Lync FE server I can access edge:4443/replicationwebservice, certificate is trusted. I added registry keys to: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL,but it not made any sense.Lync logging tools detected:

External Access

Hey everyone, i was hoping someone could help me out with this, its got me pretty confused.

I just got our edge server setup, and got a green check mark for replication so im thinking that's working for the most part.

But the things that are confusing me the most are the DNS entries, and i was hoping someone could tell me if its correct.

Here is how we have our environment:

DNS:

DC

Forward Lookup Zones

*external.com

_tcp -> _sipinternaltls (Internal Lync Front End Server)

_tls -> sipdir.online.lync.com

(CNAME) - Name -> lyncdiscover| Data -> webdir.online.lync.com

(CNAME) - Name -> sip              | Data -> Internal Lync Front End Server

*internal.com

_tcp -> _sipinternaltls (Internal Lync Front End Server)

Host (A) - Name -> lyncdiscover|Data -> IP of Internal Lync Front End Server

Host (A) - Name -> lyncdiscoverinternal|Data -> IP of Internal Lync Front End Server

And as for our Public DNS records it goes something like:

Host(A) - Name -> lyncdiscover|Data -> Public IP of Edge Server

For the topology we have:

SIP domain

Default Sip Domain:external.com

Additional Supported Sip Domain: internal.com

We have it so that the external IP gets port forwarded to 10.101.2.138 IP, not sure that's it. But if anyone would know why this wouldnt work I'd really like to know why. If more info is needed i'll provide it. Anyway, thanks to whoever who helps out.

Hi All,

Control Panel Response Groups BLANK

$

Everything seems to be running fine, yet, when I go to the Response Goups section, everything is blank.  I have verified workflows, queues and groups exist using powershell.  I can add and delete all with powershell.  So I'm pretty sure permissions are not an issue.

Other things I have noticed/tried:  If I try to add a group via LCP, it gives the message "No workflows are assigned to current manager".  Again, I have checked and rechecked permissions and group memberships.  It  does this no matter what user or administrator or what computer I use when I sign in.

In New Queue, click select under groups and it is blank. From powershell, I can verifiy groups exist.

In New Workflow, the queue dropdown is blank. Again, from powershell, I can verifiy queues exist.

Any ideas where I can look for a clue?  I have been digging through any log I can find but don't see abything.

Any help??
