Monitoring and Testing Lync Server 2013 Performance
Good day ,
I have two questions :
1 - Even though it is not recommended . How can I use Stress and Performance tool to test my production Lync Servers
using current users accounts and profiles without making any changes to AD or Lync topology?
2 - What are the most important Lync server counters to be monitored and is it enough to use Windows Performance monitoring tool for that purpose ?
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards Bisher Shbib

Lync 2013 SQL Mirroring works but unable to add Witness server
Hi
I am deploying Lync 2013 as part of a migration from Lync 2010.
I have two SQL 2012 Standard servers and one SQL 2012 Express server all running on Server 2012 R2.
I have Lync 2013 Enterprise running on Server 2012 R2 as well.
All servers are the same domain, no local firewalls, and all the SQL servers use the same SQL service account. All three SQL server computer accounts and the service account have read/write to the SQL share.
TCP/IP is enabled on the SQL Express server and the port set to 7022. The SQL service account has been added as a logon and given the Connect right. It responds to Telnet on port 7022 and can be connected to over ODBC.
If I configure mirroring in the Topology Builder it works fine; the primary and secondary create endpoints on 5022 and everything copies and syncs. If I try and specify the witness in Topology Builder and publish the topology it fails and no mirror databases are created (after removing mirroring and the mirror databases from the first try).
The error is "The cmdlet is unable to discover SQL Server account information for server instance <witness server FQDN> Make sure the WMI provider is running and the SQL server instance exists and is not running under a local machine account or local service account."
I experienced similar errors setting up mirroring without the witness when either the SQL Server computer accounts or service account didn't have sufficient rights to the SQL Share. However, now all three servers and the service account have read/write to the SQL share. I've also verified the witness is contactable on port 7022 and can be connected to using the service account. Without the witness mirroring works so I know the rest of the config is OK.
Clutching at straws the only possible thing I can see I could have done differently is I specified the witness as FQDN\Default the same as the Standard Edition servers whereas perhaps FQDN\SQLEXPRESS might be needed. However, the Topology Builder won't let me add another witness using the same FQDN as one it knows about already. I don't know, and can't find, how to delete a store that has been created in the Topology Builder even if it is no longer used in the Topology.
I've looked at the Technet articles and blogs on setting up mirroring and I've checked the requirements i.e. permissions to the SQL share for the servers and service account, access to ports 5022/7022, and WMI Provider running. I'm at a loss and would welcome some help to sort this one out.
Thanks,
Tom
Unable to deploy database in mirror
Hello,
I'm trying to install mirror database with Lync but it's not working. I used :
Install-CsMirrorDatabase -ConfiguredDatabases -FileShare \\sqlf13-01\export -SqlServerFqdn LYNCSQL13-01 - DropExistingDatabasesOnMirror -Verbose
Error message :
Install-CsMirrorDatabase : Command execution failed: The cmdlet is unable to discover SQL Server account informationfor server instance. Make sure that WMI provider is running and the SQL Server service instance
exists and is not running under a local machine account or local service account.
LYNCSQL13-01 is a SQL Alias (wich works good).
My SQL Service account is a domain user member (i have try with domain admin) and have full permission on share. I have restarted WMI service twice and servers too...
Thanks

Jordan

Is it possible Lync 2013 to be installed on a Domain Controller?
I run a small infrastructure with two servers only, Both Domain Controllers with Windows 2008 R2 and the one is a file server too. I would like to know if I can install Lync 2013 Standard Server to any of them? I have not found a clear answer anywhere as I found for 2010.
Thank You in advance

Lync 2010 Topology Question - Add Forest and SIP domain
Hello,
I've run into a scenario where I have a customer that has their Lync setup in their own forest and AD domain. They now want to provide IM to an organization that has their own Forest and AD domain. There is a full two way trust between the two. This other company does not want to buy any additional hardware, and does not want to install Lync.
I've looked at the topologies and they don't address when you have two central forests, with Lync already installed in one of the forests and you want users from the other forest to use Lync...
any ideas?
The best article to explain why two NICs with Edge?
I've read Jeff Schertz's article, "Clarification on OCS Edge Interface Support". Also, I see that TechNet says you need to NICs in different subnets.
So the question isn't if it's supported or if it will work. The question is if there's an article explaining why? Is it a STUN/TURN protocol thing? Does someone deep dive into the why?
Lync 2013 Edge server - Public IP issue
Dear All,
In our environment, we would get Virtual Servers for putting the Edge server role for Lync.
The VM that we will get from our cloud vendor has a limitation, it can have max one Virtual NIC vNic and only one Public IP per VM.
I understand that the EDGE server needs 3 Public IPs and 3 Private IPs for the LYNC Edge services (AV, Access, web).
How can I get the same configured?
Can I use 3 different VMs for EDGE servers and use one Public IP on each VM in order to complete the requirement for 3 Public IP for 3 Edge services?
Pls suggest what all needs to be configured?

Lync 2013 Deployment - External Connection Error's (Schannel Event ID: 36884)
Hey Technets,
We are currently upgrading our MS Lync 2010 environment to MS Lync 2013 and are having some challenges with it.
The setup is:
AD Domain: domain.local
Web/Email: domain.net
Old 2010 Server (com01.domain.local) - Server 2008R2
CA Server (dc01.domain.local) - Server 2008R2
New 2013 Front End Pool (lync01.domain.local) - Server 2012R2
New 2013 Edge Server (lync02.domain.local) - Server 2012R2
Internal Certs set (lync01.domain.local / lync02.domain.local)
External UCC SSL Cert (access.domain.net, av.domain.net, webconf.domain.net)
DNS/CNAME/SRV Records Applied / All Correct Ports Open - everything is talking to everything (tested extensively).
So everything works but when I run the MS Connectivity Tester on port 5061 I get this error on the Front End Pool Server:
Schannel Event ID: 36884
"The certificate received from the remote server does not contain the expected name. It is therefore not possible to determine whether
we are connecting to the correct server. The server name we were expecting is lync02.domain.local. The SSL
connection request has failed. The attached data contains the server certificate."
I don't get the same error when running it on Port 443?
It seems like the Front End Pool doesn't recognize the Edge Server or the CNAME/Alias from access.domain.net to lync02.domain.local - these
are all set and working?
Any help would be great, thank you! Alex.
Lync 2013 for Windows Phone 8 - logging
I have Lync 2013 for Windows Phone 8.
It does not connect, but that does not surprise me at this point.
I enabled logging on the phone, create the log .jpg file, and email it to myself as an attachment.
When I open the file in the text editor, all I see is garbage - no logging.
What is wrong?
Lync2013 server Control Panel error
Hello!
Could you please help me with the following?
I've installed the Lync server but when I launch the Control Panel I get the error message:
HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error
Calling LoadLibraryEx on ISAPI filter "C:\Windows\system32\DocFilter.dll" failed
Actually, I can't find(see) that .dll in this location. It's just missing. What can I do in this situation?

Configuring Mobile Access with single public ip in test environment
Hi to all, I'm trying to configure a test lab environment for Lync 2013. Actually I installed DC+FE in 2 separate servers and domain and off-domain pc (with exported CA chain ad certificate) works perfectly. My goal is now to configure access for mobiles (iphone\ipad). In my country (Italy) Lync is not really diffused like in USA. Now my question. I've a lone public ip for testing, is it possible to make it works? What have i to install now? Edge? Reverse Proxy? Both?? I wanna have less resource possibile implicated in this lab environment also if this means "not supported".
Thank you for the support.

Can't run Test-CsLisCivicAddress
This was working just a few days ago, while our Lync deployment expert was here (naturally.) But now it doesn't seem to work.
I needed to update one of the locations in our LIS database. It's a field office that moved three doors down, so the street number changed. Anyway, I removed the old entry and recreated it with the new address; no problem there. We're partnered with 911 Enable, so I needed to run test-CsLisConfiguration -UpdateValidationStatus. Like I said, it was working fine just a couple of weeks ago. Now when I run it, I get this error:
I verified that I have the right credentials, and even tried running it using our deployment experts account. I also tried running it with a specific address instead of the entire list, but got the same error. Our deployment expert ran the same command in his own environment (not ours, but he's also partnered with 911 Enable), and it ran no problem. Consequently I have to assume that the problem isn't on 911 Enables side.
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks in advance!
Lync 2013 Updates before initial install
Have done the initial install of Lync 2013 and working to complete all Windows updates before the setting up topology. There are several Lync updates that are showing that need to installed. Can those be applied before I start the install of Lync or should I wait until everything is up and running.
Update Rollup for Lync Server 2013 admin tools KB2837510
Update Rollup for Lync Server 2013 core componets KB2881682
Update Rollup for Lync Server 2013 unified communications managed api 4.0 core runtime x64 KB2881685

Restricting call types per user extension
Hi Guys,
I need to restrict the call types that can be made in Lync 2013 from certain extensions and while I know how to block bulk users from say dialing premium numbers (and perhaps sending them to an announcement), I wondered if you could explain the best
way to do this on a user by user basis so for example one user can dial international numbers and the other cannot , another can dial premium numbers but another cannot. Are there any nice tools available to help with this or powershell commands.
I normally try to use the lync optimiser to generate the basic rules but not sure if this will do the trick. Any advice much appreciated.
Many thanks
Darren
