Forest Prep error Lync Server 2013 RTC Service already exists

We have been running OCS 2007 r2 for the past few years before that ocs 2007.  It all works but we want to migrate over to Lync 2013.

I am trying to set up Lync 2013 then move user over to the new front end server.

I run domain prep no problems everything replicates over.

Next I try forest prep but it fails because a group its trying to create already exists (due to my current ocs install).  We have one forest and one domain.

Here is the error:

> Prepare Forest

I saw some post with the same problem but I didnt see a real solution posted.  I want to migrate to Lync 2013 without having to remove the currently working OCS 2007 R2.  I've also run into the same error when trying to migrate to Lync 2010.

Single Site DR/HA Options

Hi

We are designing a Lync 2103 EV deployment on a single central site for approx 50 users

So it will be Standard Edition server for all Lync workloads

what are the DR/HA options - obviously we can spec another SE server and pool pair and that gives all the functionality if a single server fails - but at a cost

Is it a valid configuration to specify a SBA in the (same) central site - and use that purely for voice redundancy in the event of a server failure? (as well as the voice gateway)

if so what would be the procedure for re-homing the users to the SBA

From Lync side am sure account should be member of CSAdministrator and RTCUniversalServerAdmin group, however from sql side, does account required to have SA rights on both the primary & mirror DB instance.

Establishing Lync Server 2013 on a Child Domain

Hi,

We want to establish Lync Server 2013 Enterprise Edition on a child-domain. I finished the installation. Now, if i add to users to child domain and enable from Lync Server Control Panel for test, users can be signed in. However, we use child domain for only domain computers. We want to keep users on parent domain, not child domain.

I can enable users which are on parent domain, but users can not sign in. When i look Lync troobleshooting program, i got this error: "user is not sip enabled"

How can i solve this problem not adding users to child domain?

User with pool ownership conflict error (Event ID 4073)

WE have the following Event reported repeatedly in the event log of the server:

Microsoft Lync Server 2013, Backup Service user store backup module detected items having pool ownership conflict during import.

Items having pool ownership conflict:

ItemId: ccc6b1b3-af98-4029-b5f5-ed6bc84eb937, DocId: 1032, DocName: urn:hcd:CAB@kinged6nun.ac.uk

ItemId: ccc6b1b3-af98-4029-b5f5-ed6bc84eb937, DocId: 1033, DocName: urn:lcd:cab@kinged6nun.ac.uk

I cant find any issue in AD. I have removed the user from Lync and re-added but the issue persists. Any ideas?

Thanks

Question about FE Loabalancing and Simple URLs

Hi all,

For our internal Lync deployment, we have a combination of DNS loadbalancing and HW loadbalancing.
I understand that I need HW LB for the FE Web services and created a separate DNS name and VIP for the internal web services.

I was wondering if I only have to setup HW LB for the internal web services (port 80 and 443) or is it also required to HW loadbalance the external web services (8080 and 4443) ?

Second question, which is related to the first;
In my internal DNS, do i need to change the records for things like meet, dialin, lyncdiscover to the VIP of the HW LB ?

I currently only have the record for the internal web services entry pointing to the VIP, but am not sure about the other ones.

In the following blog post, the author has set all these records to point to the VIP:

Pool Pairing and SQL

I have a preliminary design question that I have not be able to answer.  Hoping this is an easy one.

We want to deploy a HA design, with 2 pools, paired.  1 pool at each site.  Can we deploy a single SQL mirror(2 servers) with 1 server at each site and have both pools use the same SQL instance? Or do I need 2 mirrors(4 servers).  Bandwidth/Latency is not an issue here.

Lync Clients Signing out "Cannot sign in to Lync: Please sign out at another location and try again"

LYNC 2013 CU1.

All clients using LYNC2013 client recieve the following error.

"Cannot sign in to Lync: Please sign out at another location and try again. You have reached the maximum number of computers or devices allowed"

It also logs the mobile IOS client out aswell.

Lync Phone edition handsets begin to sign out and get stuck in "signing out" stage. Have to unplug the handset to reboot it.

Have set

Set-CsRegistrarConfiguration –Identity global –MaxEndpointsPerUser 30.

Also restarted the server.  Error happened again.

I dont know where to look to find this fault. Any help appreciated.

RTCLOCAL Database stops randomly, Taking down Registrar Service

Randomly the RTCLOCAL SQL service will enter the stopped state, taking down the Registrar Lync service. There is nothing in the error logs showing why this is happening. All I have to do is start the RTCLOCAL SQL service and everything comes back.

Any help?

Migrating Lync 2010 Std to Lync 2103 Std- Move PSTN Gateway and Trusted Applications

We had a Lync 2010 Std server in one site and pool and migrated to Lync 2013 Std by creating another site and pool.  Same SIP domain, etc.  Everything is working so far that we have tested.

My question is now is there a way to just move the PSTN gateway and trunk that shows in the shared components of the Lync 2010 site to the Lync 2013 site?

Lync 2013 migration from Lync 2010

Hi All,

I have a problem after I've successfully migrated our Lync environment from Lync 2010 (what was migrated from OCS 2008 R2) to Lync 2013.

When I would like to delete the old Lync 2010 Front End server from the topology I cannot do that, because there are some TrustedApplicationPool registered to that. And I cannot delete this unused TrustedApplicationPools, because I got the following error:

"Remove-CsTrustedApplicationPool : Cannot remove legacy trusted application pool. Use the legacy tools to remove the pool, then run Merge-CsTopology."

I've tried that many ways, I've tried the merging etc. but it was unsuccessful. Has anybody any idea, step-by-step or something what can helpful to me?

Many thanks,

Lync 2013 Deployment Requirements - One Server?

I have an organization that has an offsite Exchange Server 2010, and Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain Controller (for the Exchange Server).

I am trying to figure out what we need for hardware and Windows Server software to implement Lync 2013.  I understand that Lync 2013 cannot be put on the same server as the Exchange Server.  Can Lync 2013 be put on one Windows server?

SQL mirror

Hi,

Quick question. Whilst I understand that the high availability options for back end services need to be the same for both sets of paired pools, can we deploy a SQL mirrored back end server for pool 1 and a standalone SQL server for pool 2 and pair both pools ?

Thanks

Hi,

How will be the call flow if an External Lync user originally from Site1, trying to register as external in Site2. Will the Register request will go to Site1 Edge pool or Site 2 edge pool.

--- What will be the case when with load balancer and without load balancer.?

--- is there any blog where I can see different SIP call flows  and HTTPS call flows?

In most places people ask to disable delegation... but i don't see an option in the ARR .... i've tried to disable feature delegation (on the iis server) and it didn't helped.

is there any chance it's have anything to do with my lync kerberos account ?

please advise me what to do i'm lost.

thanks in advance

ABSCONFIG (enable INITIALS in Lync contact card)

Hi guys.

Is it possible to achieve showing INITIALS from ACTIVE DIRECTORY in Lync Contact Card with tool: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2013\ResKit\ABSConfig.exe?

If it is, how could we achieve that?

If it is, will Lync search box also be able to find person if you type their initials?
